There will be a delay for the review of Romeo x Juliet for this week as I have not downloaded the episode yet. However I promise to play catch up with it by next week - hopefully. Also I will have to suspend the download page as most of the links are broken. I will attend to it as soon as possible. Correction. I haven’t start my summer anime viewing yet. I was mistaken Devil May Cry as a summer anime but it is actually a spring anime title. My mistake.
As we all know, next week will be the final review for Death Note (Duh! The final episode). And it also seems that next week is an important week. Let me explain myself. Next week, I will have to act as a cameraman for a certain event. Along with this is a birthday party for my cousin that I need to attend to. It is going to be a busy week next week, adding with the reviews of two episodes of Romeo x Juliet, reviews for Darker Than Black and Devil May Cry. And of course, the final episode of Death Note, which I promise to have more screenshots and overall reviews of the outgoing series. Come to think of it, it sucks to know how will the story ends because the ending is dramatic and shocking. It is wrong to say that it is shocking since the ending should be that way. By the way, I like the title of this episode.
Light vs. Near
In the wake of Takada’s death, many of the television stations were competing to replace her position as Kira’s spokesperson. Light was confident that nobody has suspected him for Takada’s death. Then Near called in, confirming their meeting on the 28th at 1 p.m. Matsuda and Ide were rather excited but unnoticed by them, Aizawa knew the situation too well as it is possible that everyone will die. At SPK, Near bid his team members good luck. Finally the appointed time has come. It was soaking with rain as Near informed the Japanese police that Amane has been released. Light confirmed this by calling her. Amane informed of well being inside a suite of Teito Hotel. Thankfully this idiot is out from the showdown. Otherwise she would likely spoils the mood. Light asked for Mogi for his password for the safebox that contains the notebook. The systems works by entering all the passwords kept by each members of the investigation team. Finally the last person to open the safebox was Aizawa and he took it out. Aizawa was the one responsible to carry the notebook and Light considered it as the best decision for Near’s sake. Inside the car on the way to the Yellow Box at Daikoku wharf, Light was confident of his plan to work out perfectly and to rule the world as Kira. Once arrived, Aizawa confirmed Near’s arrival and they made their way into the warehouse. Opening the door, the Japanese police team revealed themselves to the SPK members and Mogi with Near wearing a mask that looked like L. During this moment, the soundtrack was pretty intense and this craved me more to have the second OST album for Death Note.

Talking to himself, Light mocked Near as not qualified of wearing L’s mask for having him more inferior than L. Aizawa broke the silence, informing his team that the people standing opposite them are the SPK with Near as the person with the mask. Matsuda protested against Near for not being fair to accuse someone from his team as Kira and to wear a mask only to save himself. Near claimed the action as precautionary as he was sure that Kira has seen the faces of everyone inside the warehouse except for himself. He was also sure that everyone’s name have already been written. Near also asking to wait for another 30 minutes to see if anyone dies. Aizawa thought to himself that if Light is Kira, it won’t be happening as he knew that they have no role in this matter any longer. And so they stood there waiting for 30 minutes. While waiting, Light thought it as a waste of time. He holding himself from laughing as he was expecting someone to arrive later. 30 minutes have passed and Matsuda informed this to Near. Finally Near has decided to take off his mask. Again Near told them of his intention to wait for another person to arrive that will complete the whole meeting. He said that the building is a sealed room and in order to look inside, the person has to open the door and show himself to everyone. When Matsuda asked of who this person is, Near told him that it is X-Kira, the one who is doing judgement for Kira. He was sure that X-Kira will kill everyone in the room and those who knows about the notebook. Matsuda and Ide got panicked by the fact that someone will come to kill them. Near added that they should pretend to notice his presence and greet him if he comes through the door. Then Near saw him and told them that he is here. Mikami was outside peeping through the door and saw everyone’s name. Then he noticed that Yagami Light is Kira. In a maniac frenzy, he wrote everyone’s name on the notebook. Matsuda who was terrified, took out his gun but Lester and Giovanni aimed their guns to Matsuda to stop him. Near assured them that they will not die, saying that he has changed the notebook. He replaced the pages of the notebook when he had his chance earlier. He studied that X-Kira wrote on the notebook precisely one page a day. For making the modification, Near was sure that no one will die even after writing their names on the notebook.

Near then predicted that X-Kira will checked inside the room again later to make sure that everyone dies. Only then, they will make the arrest. And when they seized the notebook later, whose name is not written is Kira. However Light have already expected the modification, just as planned. He was assured himself of victory against Near. The notebook prepared for Mikami which Near has replaced is actually fake. The real notebook that was used for Mikami now is the real one, which was kept hidden for this day. Light elaborated his plan. After preparing the fake notebook, Mikami surrendered the real one to Takada. So Takada was the one who has been doing the killing in behalf of Kira. Also Mikami purposely wrote on the fake notebook in public to gain Giovanni’s attention (recall the train incident at episode 33) while Takada was the one who did the judgement. This will convinced that Mikami is using the real notebook. That confirmed that the text message that Mikami gave inside the train that day was the name for Takada to write, given that Mikami has the shinigami eye. In Mikami’s routine, he goes to gym every Thursday and Sunday and each day Mikami writes on the notebook exactly one page. Knowing that Near would notice this, Light knew that Near will come up with a plan. The plan that Light expected was that Mikami will use the right side of the page of the notebook on the day of their meeting. All that was done is to replace that particular page. So when a name is written on the notebook, no one will die. Surely enough, Light would notice if the notebook has been replaced as he asked for Mikami to thoroughly check the notebook everyday (the great extent of using the microscope). That is when Mikami checked the notebook and sent the message “I have confirmed it.” So the notebook with him now is the real one. Again Light compared Near to L as he knew of his chances to win. Being inferior to L, Light was sure that L would think of the possibility of the notebook being fake and test. So Light was spanking confident to win.

Then Light called to Mikami outside and asked him if he was done writing all the names. Replying yes, Light was fighting his laughter as everyone will die in 40 seconds. However Near found this as strange for the person outside answered to Light’s question just now. Light shrugged it, saying that the person might be honest or simply he has seen through Near’s plan perfectly. Near invited Mikami into the room. Adding that he has already written down the names, he has nothing to fear already. Light gotten cocky and invited him too. He then asked Mikami how much time has passed since he had written those names. Mikami began his countdown. At 39th second, Light already declared his victory to Near. Then Mikami’s wristwatch ticked to the 40th second.
Mikami turns psycho.
“40 second!”
ARGH! The 40th second. The time stopped at the 40th second. Yes the fate of everyone lies on that 40th second. Will they die and follows out Near’s plans perfectly? Of course they will survive. There is one more episode to go and more needed to be told. But the outcome will be very uncertain. Forgive me for spoiling this but it would be dumb if you don’t know the ending of the story. This is given that you did your homework, of course. I desperately want to tell the ending but it is always better to keep the suspense and watch how things will finally wrapped up. Now on the other hand, Matsuda was given more scripts in this episode as though his self-titled episode was not enough for his honour. You cannot blame the man, it is his nature - talkative and emotional. The showdown turned out as expected, which is the battle of egos between two masterminds. Light barely won over L. Then he managed to kill Mello in an unexpected way. Finally he was over confident to make it a third against Near. Also I have to be frank, Light failed to carry out a flawless plan. Compared to what he did to L, this plan against Near was prone to flaws. We have to wait another week to find out.
just wanna ask (i hope someone will clear this out) the notebook with english instructions was given back to gelus, right? (that was when dad souchiro died) why did i see it carried by L’s team? and the one with near is misa’s notebook, that’s the only one left in the human world…. please tell me. thanx in advance!
Whoa! Check your time frame first. The 1st notebook (given to Light by Ryuk) was taken back by Shidou because Shidou is the original owner of that notebook. So now, that leaves Misa’s notebook left in the world in which it brings about the final showdown between Light and Near.
And btw, Gelus/Jealous is the shinigami who sacrificed himself to save Misa in which later his notebook was handed over to Misa by Rem.
