The story is getting nowhere. Not just the story, even the characters inside are static. Very few character development and still stuck to conflicting emotions. These innocent adolescents are just annoying. I’ve been telling myself to ask them to grow up, especially the lead male Kouichi who is sick in his puppy love yet fails to do anything about it. Sad. Not being honest with your own feelings can be troublesome, you know. Also equally pathetic (he probably more pathetic than Kouichi is) is Kazuki who is not even sure about his feelings. Is it love did he felt for Eriko or just feeling too troubled by the kiss he had with her, which Eriko seems didn’t care at all. On one side, the humor is dull. The story is probably saved by the bubbly Mao but the rest of the characters are making an overkill. The writers tried to give humor to chibi characters Nana and Narumi but failed miserably. Hmmm… making them cute and play with frog plushies do not count for comedy. If not for that small tint of humor, Kimikiss would be a plain, serious love story. It can either be a little good or really bad.

Feeling lazy to go to school? Don’t we all do?
Yuumi came across with Kouichi walking to school with Mao and began to wonder if Mao is a special someone to Kouichi. Meanwhile Nana and Narumi greeted each other at school with a passionate kiss. With the frog plushies of course. Kazuki who saw this can’t help to forget about the kiss he had with Eriko. It was then they were joined with Kouichi and Mao who had just arrived. As Mao was on her way to class, Nana caught up to her and showed her a karaoke brochure to ask for her suggestion about a welcoming party for her. Mao gave her okay with the karaoke idea. Wondering who will be going, Kazuki told Mao that only five of them are going - Mao, Kazuki, Kouichi, Nana and Narumi. Since the half-price offer is only available for groups of seven, Mao challenged Kazuki and Kouichi to get two more person to join them and she suggested Kouichi to bring Yuumi along. Now this is an obvious chance for Kouichi to make the first move. During recess, Yuumi is heading to the library for her duty as a librarian and Kouichi followed her, probably to invite her to the karaoke. Meanwhile Kazuki tried to look for Eriko at her class but failed to say a word as he saw her walking by.

Kids nowadays are whoring for frogs.

“I shall put thee to the ultimate test - KISS MY ARSETH!”

Crushing isn’t exactly helping to win a girl’s heart.
At library, Kouichi could only watch Yuumi from far as though he is staking on her. But really, he did not muster enough courage to talk to her and yeah, this is pathetic. Little did he know that Mao was looking out for him at far. All his awkward and odd behaviours are witnessed by Mao. Kouichi initiated the conversation and Yuumi asked him if there is a book he is looking for. Instead Kouichi asked her when will be she finishing her library duty. Giving him an answer, Kouichi began to ask that “million dollar” question. “Do you have a karate book or something?” That was the “million dollar” question. Mao was vexed, if not feeling pathetic with that move by Kouichi and decided to take matters with her own hands. Mao tried to force Kouichi to spill it out but in the end, it was her who made the invite to Yuumi, deliberately saying that Kouichi wanted her to come along. Yuumi agreed. All ended well at last. That afternoon, everyone was at the karaoke box including Hiiragi. Kazuki did not manage to find anyone for the welcoming party and had no other choice but to get Hiiragi. All for the sake of the half-price offer. Mao was the one who set herself loose and sang her heart out. Noticing that Yuumi is out of the room, Mao excused herself to the washroom.

“KAMPAII!”

Idol fever

And they’re infected as well.
At the washroom, Mao had a little talk with Yuumi. Yuumi said that she is not comfortable of singing in front of people and Mao wondered if she wanted a singing partner, suggesting Kouichi to sing with her. Yuumi blushed. Then she asked Mao of her relationship with Kouichi. Mao explained that she is a childhood friend of Kouichi and made it clear that she is more a sister to him. The same goes for Kazuki and Nana. Then she asked her to get along with Kouichi. So the two returned to their karaoke box, only to witness Kouichi and Kazuki performing their “Healing Beam” act though they would look better in their gorilla and bear suit. They called the night off and Kouichi accompanied Yuumi (after persuaded by Mao) to send her off at the train station. Mao walked back alone when she noticed Eiji at a bar. It turns out that he works there in exchange of him using the saxaphone for him to practice. Mao thinks that it’s cool and before leaving, she hoped to see him performing next time. Meanwhile at the train station, Kouichi apologized to Yuumi as he felt he forced her to join them but Yuumi said that it is fine with the excuse of not used to do things together with other people and she admitted to have fun. As the train was about to arrive, Yuumi made her leave. Kouichi wanted to stop her and confesses his true feelings for her. And when he did, what I initially thought to be a confession turned out to be him asking her if he could talk more with her from then onwards. I’m speechless. Lame. As anti-climatic as it gets, she agreed and rushed to catch a train. At least, they’re both are glad about it.

“I smell pheromones.”

“Eiji? A host? No way?”

“I love you… to talk to me… or something like that.”
So many expected to be a confession of love had turned out to be a question. Rather than a question, it was more like he was asking her to grant him permission to talk to her. Is there’s a restraining order to not to talk to Yuumi in the first place? As lovey-dovey this couple could make, their cute puppy love is just too pathetic. Or is that I am an adult who seeks greater meaning of love in an adolescent love story? Even so, pathetic is just pathetic. However what came in more interesting now is the possible love connection between Mao and Eiji. This might be worthwhile. Also nothing less is expected from Kazuki who seemed troubled with his feelings with Eriko. Was it even love to begin with? Well, next episode is just that and with the title of “step in” is rendered appropriate, considering of how boring this episode is. So let Eriko step in and settle all the problem.
