The worsening broadband speed in Malaysia has taken atoll on my review as I only got my Code Geass R2 episode 7 very late. Who to blame in this matter?
Lelouch wakes up to see Rollo by his bedside. Remembered of his dream earlier, he asked Rollo if he muttered something in his sleep just now. Although he did call out for Nunnally, Rollo denied that he said anything at all. He is being ignorant for the moment somehow. More after the jump.
Lelouch thinks that he will not be able to be reunited with Nunnally if he continues to become Zero. He assured himself that she is safe with the Britannia army and Suzaku by her side. In fact, he intended to have Suzaku to be by Nunnally’s in the beginning though things did not turn out the way he expected before. In the background, the student council members are packing stuff to bring for their upcoming fieldtrip. Then an announcement comes in to gather all students to witness the inauguration ceremony of the new Governor General of Area 11. After introducing herself in her speech, she then makes a sudden announcement for the reestablishment of the Special Administrative Zone of Japan – the same idea proposed by Euphemia. However the Elevens were only reminded of what had happened previously while many others remained skeptical. Even so, she believes that the previous attempt had a tragic end but was intended to create an equal and kind world. She even invites the Orders of the Black Knight to join along. Lelouch could not bear listening to this anymore and leaves the hall. After the speech, Nunnally wonders if Euphemia did the right thing the last time, Suzaku ascertains that Euphemia did nothing wrong. Lelouch made his way on a train, thinking that Zero and his fight are no longer necessary. Meanwhile at the submarine of the Black Knights, they consider that Nunnally’s move would end up the same way like what Euphemia did and they decided to fight back on that. Then Kaguya comes in, asking for Zero who is nowhere in the submarine. When Kaguya mentioned that Zero has not keep in touch with her for a long time, Tamaki jokingly said that Zero is cheating on her, inadvertly referring to Kallen who by now quickly denies anything of such. Hearing Kaguya’s answer that she did not mind about it at all, saying that it is normal given that Zero is a grown man, C.C. who is there rationalizes that Kaguya is more of a woman she appears. After thanking C.C. for taking care of Zero, Kaguya joins her hands and Kallen’s, saying that they are like the Hinamatsuri.
Lelouch is feeling depressed of everything that is happening when suddenly he sees Nunnally on the monitor screen and started to freak out. It was all Rollo’s doing who changes the display. Lelouch immediately hops out of the train and see more posters of Nunnally congratulated for being the new Governor General. He could not bear to see this and runs away while Rollo follows him. He then runs into an Eleven-turned-Britannian-noble and his henchmen who extort money from an Eleven who craves for a Refrain. In disgust, he orders them to do random things using his Geass such as push-up, dancing, and even howling. On the next day, Milley, Shirley and Rivalz are about to leave for their fieldtrip and are waiting for Lelouch who is yet to show up. By then, he is at a construction site in Shinjuku where the city is undergoing reconstruction. He is about to use Refrain on himself when suddenly Kallen shows up to him. She sees this and immediately throws the Refrain away from him. She tries to convince him that it is not the end after one loss and is willing to do anything he commands. Lelouch instead orders him to comfort him in a way a woman can do for a man. Wow! Lelouch is horny? Anyway, he gets closer to her and tries to kiss her but she comes to her senses, only to land him a slap on his face. She reminds him that he is still Zero and begs him to do his role with all his might. After said that, she runs away. He want to chase after her but hesitated. Then Rollo appears in front of him. Rollo tells him that Area 11 will be better off without Zero and he can return to his previous life as a student and lives happily with the rest. He also (passionately) assures Lelouch that he will always stay by his side, no matter what. Later on, Kallen is back on the ship and is holding Zero’s mask while staring at it. C.C. comes in and reminds her that the burden of the mask is heavy. It was then the Britannia army calls out to them, saying that they are diverting off course. The Black Knights are now being compromised. Later that night, Lelouch returns to school with Rollo. They were surprised to see fireworks on the horizon above the school. He rushes to the rooftop and sees Shirley, Milley and Rivalz lighting up all the fireworks as they told him that they called off the fieldtrip. Milley said that traveling is not about where they are heading but is about who they are traveling with.
He also notices the paper crane on Shirley’s hands, ever remindful of Nunnally. She said that she wished on the paper crane so that she can light fireworks with everyone, including Kallen, Nina, and Rollo. It is sad that they have totally forgotten about Nunnally. He then remembers about his childhood times with Suzaku when he asks what happiness would be like. Suzaku once said that happiness is like a glass – it is hardly gets noticed but when being reflected by light, it is visibly there. He realizes that happiness is always there for him, though now it is tainted with fake memories. Without him noticing, he begins to shed some tears by that thought. He then told them that they should light fireworks next time with everyone else. By now, he knows that the fight is no longer for Nunnally’s sake anymore. Meanwhile Suzaku then commands an attack on the ship where the Black Knights are, after failing to identify themselves to the army. The black Knights escape to the deep sea below using the submarine while the ship is destroyed. Things turn bad for the Black Knights when the Portman Knightmares are deployed, along with the bombardment of surface-to-sea missiles. The pressure from the army slims down their chances to survive and then, Zero comes in the nick of time. He gave out his orders and the Black Knights obey it as it was their last hope. Torpedoes are fired straight ahead without knowing what is there. After manning the anchor, he tells them to brace for impact. What they did not know is that the torpedoes blow off the undersea methane hydrate tanks that creates huge bubbles streaming up to surface and destroys the whole navy forces. Just as the army and the Knights of Round at site trying to recover, Zero shows up on top a Vincent and declares that the Black Knights will join the Special Administrative Zone of Japan, as what Governor General Nunnally had proposed.
Thoughts: The writers decided to slow things down and go down the melancholy path. It is not a bad thing after all. In this episode, Lelouch faces a self-conflict that will not only jeopardize his identity as Zero but also the whole effort of the Black Knights. In the final episode of season 1, Lelouch was reminded of his purpose of fighting, which is Nunnally. Even now, the objective remains the same for Lelouch but the problem he is facing is that Nunnally is now a Governor General of Area 11, which also means that she serves for the Britannia empire, the very same empire which Lelouch wishes to destroy. His resolution? Somewhat something touching, and I like it. It is simply because Lelouch nearly given up his mask and his fight, which ultimately brings the story to nowhere – not the intention of the writers obviously. Yeah, so I was wrong about my earlier theory, which is to give up his identity to someone else. Nonetheless, Kallen was tempted to do such a feat. Yet after this episode, I was compelled to feel hinted by the writers of how the ending would turn out. It’s farfetched but it might turn out that way. Somehow everyone may be together and live happily ever after. Oh, what a cliche! However with little plot development, this episode is not exempted from many filler. At least, some are plesant. Yeah, I’m talking about Lloyd.
Ooooh! Lest not to forget is the near-kiss moment between Kallen and Lelouch. Sadly, it was nothing romantic. So Lelouch is still available, ladies. And did I mention about that gay moment that Rollo had with his new fetish?
Next episode: All I can tell is the Black Knights are not seriously joining the Special Admistrative Zone. Also included, Villetta in swimsuit. Again!
