Michiko to Hatchin has had a rather bizarre release schedule of late so far, but hopefully it will even out soon enough. It’s much more enjoyable to watch a show weekly than 2 every other week.
Before I review this episode I would like to say I do not approve of the slaughter of cartoon animals for our entertainment.
This episode started off with this little flashback. Remember from episode 1 when Hatchin had her little daydream about being rescued. I’m not quite sure what to make of the whole scene, especially that Hiroshi has the tattoo. I checked to see if he had that in the last episode but her was wearing a shirt the whole time so we’re not sure if he had it or even when he got it. We’re not even sure what L.L.B.D.D stands for at this stage.
Michiko wasn’t too happy that Hatchin was abducted and tried to attack the auld hag, but she proved to be…shit, I’ve only now realised that Michiko didn’t have that tattoo when she was younger. And I posted a giant naked pictureof her and all. God, I feel really stupid now. On top of all that she only has one L on her tattoo while Hatchin and Hiroshi (maybe?) have two.
The auld lady had told Michiko to trust her when she was little, something Michiko had taken to heart, but if there is anything we’ve learned from watching this series it’s that these people aren’t the most trustworthy. On a side-note, Michiko hasn’t matured all that much…mentally.
Lots of dialogue here that was very important to the plot and feel of the episode but is boring to write about and boring to have repeated to you. Basically Michiko apologised to the gay chap for something in the past (?) and he agreed to help find Hatchin. Meanwhile, the fat bloke was pressured by his gang leader so he promised to deliver Michiko to him. Anywho, onto the good part of the episode!
The plan was to sneak Michiko in in a giant pot, grab Hatchin and escape. Obviously that didn’t work. So we got a bit of improvisation in the form of Matador Michiko!

You could see what was going to happen from a bizzilion miles away. Didn't stop it from being brilliant
The whole trail of events after the halfway point was one giant feast of fantastically choreographed nonsense. From Michiko trying to fight a bull and dodge bullets at the same time to Hatchins accidental escape
Then it got even better. Hatchin taking on a bull armed with her trusty ladle, Michiko’s sword fight, even fatty got into the swing of things with his ‘it’s been 100 years since we last met’ speech. Then to top it all off there was Michiko’s dramatic rescue, Tarzan style. Loved it, absolutely loved it.
Impressions:
I know it did little to advance the main plot, but I still loved this episode. The Shinichirō Watanabe factor really shines whenever the action sequences begin, the music during the bullfight matched the absurd nature of the whole operation. An important part of this episode was that it was the first one in which people could be trusted. Up until now everyone has been a bunch of skiving pricks, but this time the gay fellow proved to be a useful ally to Michiko, someone who she could actually trust. Also Michiko herself gained a bit more respect in this episode for finally rescuing Hatchin, although it seemed she was enjoying her time in the spotlight in the bullring. BTW, I didn’t know they had bullfights in Brazil, do they?
This was a nice touch, baby Jumbo being the one stepped on by Michiko, something she can to resent later. This show really needs more Jumbo. BTW, wasn’t Michiko a wanted criminal? Yet she appears on tv…

I’m not sure if they still have bullfights in brazil. But I know they still do in Spain. I think bullfights have dwindled down a lot due to tourism and people protesting. But since Spain only opened for tourism, like 20 years ago or so, their cultural events are still going strong. I’m actually glad they put the bullfights in even though it’s animal cruelty. It’s part of their culture & history and if they want to be somewhat true to Brazil, it’s good they don’t ignore it for the “animal lovers”. The way we might see something, is not how other cultures do. Ah, just my 2 cents.
