Warning: Even though there are no indecent pictures, this post isn’t for KIDS! This following anime is certainly not for kids either.

Lately, I’ve discovered I have a very twisted taste for anything that is EVIL or at least abnormal, partially due to the fact that I’ve been re-watching Kara no Kyoukai and the scene where Cornelius Alba plays around with Toko’s head still roams in my mind. And so, I’ve decided to visit some of the most evil anime in history. The first title of “The Evils of Anime” will be Blue Flames. I’ve found this anime thanks to Scamp’s Terribad Anime Reviews
Format: OVA
# of episode: 1
Year of Release: 1989
Genre: Drama, Erotica, Romance*
Studio: Nippon Animation
*The romance is a lie!

Synopsis: You got this ambitious guy, Ryuuichi Kaizu, who will stop at nothing to reach the top of Tokyo’s society simply because he’s BORED and he’s looking for thrills. Like the saint that he is, Kaizu teaches the girls whom he has his sight on what “real sex” is. He even shows how “great” he is by mastering the art of dumping a woman in the least harsh way. Yup, that method only results in her attempting murder or suicide…NO big deal. And once in a while, he will even destroy and humiliate people to teach this important lesson: life is a bitch. Perhaps the making of a true role model?

This anime obviously takes the recurrent misogyny in anime to a whole new level. What’s even more shocking is that the OVA tries to portray Kaizu as a hero (…at times) worthy of cheering while some victims are portrayed as idiots undeserving of very little sympathy. It’s somehow hilarious how he seemingly takes the role of the underdog when he receives a beat-down only to, later on, claim his victory over several of his angry and jealous male enemies in the most humiliating way possible. If a tennis captain stands on his way, Kaizu will defeat him with Tennis even if he has to take a “Shounen Jump”-like training course.
Added with his poker face, the way how Kaizu speaks sends chills on my spine. He shifts his tone pretty quickly from a cold to a kind to a sarcastic tone. This actually serves as a device that the anime uses to try making us believe he’s not such a massive dick even when he dumps his girlfriends into suicide or when he abandons his entire family. However, it only last for about 30 minute into the OVA as the animators probably realized that it was impossible to make Kaizu look less of a prick.

One of the best points of this anime is that it’s hard to stay indifferent to its heavy misogynistic story. You will either hate it or love it. The majority will certainly be disgusted by its content, but it’s still Guilty Pleasure material or, at least, it’s easily laughable when you look at the animation and Kaizu’s lack of different facial expression.
Why Would you like it? Or Why would you watch this?
- You like sociopath stories.
- You’re tired of Shinji Hikari’s mass productions.
- You like to LOL at abusingly naive girls (in anime of course).
- Preachy and Virtuous characters annoys you.
- Pain and suffering in anime is comedy to you.
- Any other reasons that makes you an abnormal person.
- You’re looking for examples of things to NOT do when you want to break up with your girlfriend.
- You want to show your girlfriend that you really love her.
Blue Flames only has one OVA episode which is a bit sad. I would have liked to know if Kaizu ever gets killed by someone from the dump list. If not, you know he’ll at least die of STD.

You should totally watch School Days! It’s inherently evil and threatens to devour the souls of all who watch it!
I’m not sure if I’d call Blue Flames ‘evil’. Just horribly misguided
Holy shism! I do believe I’ve watched this before.
