It’s official! This week’s 43rd issue of Shounen Jump has announced that Tadatoshi Fujimaki’s basketball manga, Kuroko no Basuke (Kuroko’s Basket), and NisiOisin’s high school battle and ecchi manga, Medaka Box, are set to get an anime release.
Well, this would explain why Kuroko no Basuke gets the lead color page this week which is something we’ve haven’t seen in MONTHS. Both series are NOT big hits, but just good enough to survive for somewhat long ongoing runs in the magazine.
It’s been confirmed that Kuroko will be animated by Production I.G. and there has been rumors that Gainax could do Medaka Box.
Kuroko no Basuke:

Kuroko is a member from the legendary middle school basketball team known as “The Generation of Miracles”, and while nobody seems to know about him, the main 5 players of the team all admit that he is a better player. When he joins the high school basketball team, everyone is surprised to find out that he is small, weak, and easy to miss. What is the secret that makes him so strong, and how will he help his high school team?
This isn’t the ultimate basketball series, but still enjoyable none-the-less. It’s somewhat in the mold of Slam Dunk and I’ll (Generation Basket). This is good news because we finally get a sport anime that is accessible to anyone (unlike Ring Ni Kakeru and Major) and that isn’t MOE.
Medaka Box:

Kurokami Medaka, a first year, is elected as Student Council President, and the first thing she does is establish a suggestion box. Since she was just elected as Student Council President, she’s holding all the Student Council’s responsibilities, and wearing their armbands.
So, she asks for her childhood friend, Hitoyoshi Zenkichi, for help.
You can never get more NisiOisin work animated…even if it’s an unpopular Shounen Jump series…even if it’s not the most intelligent stuff. The only thing I can confirm is the humongous amount of Eccentric characters and weird DIALOGUES.

Sport – Yes!
Ecchi – Yes!
I’m all aboard!
