Devil May Cry (Episode 4)

The story is getting more senseless and meaningless. It is no surprise to know that Devil May Cry equals pure adrenaline action but not this bland. It is simply about killing demons, killing more demons, a little of humour and killing even more demons. Stupid, if I must say. No wonder this anime has such a small fanbase. But the writers managed to excite the viewers a bit on the introduction of Trish into the story. However her introduction is not so promising. In fact the whole story lacks potential.

Devil May Cry
When a demon kills, heads will roll.

A man was running away from a demon when Lady came to rescue him. Then more demons appeared. Suddenly the demons were killed by a lightning shock. It turned out that the lightning came from a lady. Lady recalled about a priest who told her about a demon who can manipulate lightning. Hei? Not exactly. Figuring that she is a demon, Lady decided to kill her. However the lady gotten her outfit spoiled and managed to run away from Lady. At the Devil May Cry building, Lady came to see Dante and asked him about the demon whom she met last night. It gotten interesting when Dante came to know that the female demon has lightning powers and shoots with two guns. Patty came in as Lady made her leave. As always, she made unreasonable demands to Dante - to buy her new clothes of the latest trend. After the argument, Dante looked at the photo frame he have which has the picture of a lady. No brainer here, it is safe to assume (or speculate, easier said) that the lady in the picture is the same with the one Lady had encountered earlier.

Devil May Cry (Episode 3)

After a friendly advice, I’ve decided to improvise my reviewing methods. I am a person who fussy about details and things that lack details does not always convince me. However I am doing a review after all. So it is important to keep my review simple and conscience.

Although Madhouse is the studio responsible for the animation, this episode of Devil May Cry did not assured me the same quality I expect from the rest of the studio’s works. The animation was a little sloppy and as always, the drawing style is not of my liking. Even the story for this episode was a little dull despite being suggestive. Honestly my reasons of watching this anime are the spanking action scenes and the occasional dark humour. Other than those, Devil May Cry is another disappointment. Yet another huge discouragement for this episode will be the BGM (background music). The opening song (D.M.C. by rungran) is not that convincing and yet the composer made a piano score out of it. All too terrible indeed. All together, this anime is just like another Helsing.

Devil May Cry
Mr. and Mrs. Smith

A woman was running at a park and fell to sprain her ankle as she rushed to get home. A man came to her, trying to help her. Apparently this guy got some healing powers to heal her injured ankle. Before leaving, the man introduced himself as Brad. Since then, the two have been seeing each other. However the girl named Angelina was told by his father not to see Brad again. Clearly she was devastated by it. At the Devil May Cry theater, Patty was threw a tantrum over a broken television as she wanted to watch her favourite show. Then Morrison came to give Dante another assignment. In order to avoid Patty’s annoyance, Dante took the offer. It turned out that Dante and Morrison went to the residence of Capulet City (Romeo x Juliet?) mayor who is coincidentally Angelina’s father, Mike Hegel. The mayor gave Dante a picture of Brad and instructed him to kill him. He explained that Brad intended to bring his daughter Angelina away from town. Dante refused the job at the beginning but Morrison told him about the recent killings by a demon. Mike suspected that Brad is the culprit as the incidents occurred coincidently with Brad’s appearance.

Devil May Cry (Episode 2)

Devil May Cry has a great lineup of voice talents and excellent animation production. Unfortunately the storyline for now is still vague and failed to gain attention among the viewers including myself. All I can say is that this anime is pure action, suitable for adrenaline junkies. I admit to enjoy watching it but having too much proven to be too bland. You have to keep low expectations from game-based anime with fewer number of episodes. The episode this time is much more unpleasant to me because the story is involving biker dudes. I have no resentments against the bikers. It’s just that I am reminded of the mat-rempits who are public nuisance on motorbikes. Nonetheless for speed-freaks out there, this might be something good to see.

Devil May Cry
Miss Lady, demon hunter

The episode begins with a motorcycle race and from afar, two men were watching them closely. Riding at neck-breaking speed proven costly as one of the bikers lost control and fell off the road. The remaining biker asked the race leader Michel to slow down. Well you know about speed demons, they are arrogant and ignorant. Despite going on top speed, a rider behind him blazed fast past him and he wanted to give chase. Bad decision. He had lost control of his bike and got into a bad accident which have costs his life. Then on a different scene, a man ran towards a lady in hood as he took cover from the rain. Assumed that she got ditched by her boyfriend, the man tried his luck to bring her out to dinner instead. Somehow she agreed and moved on. However they ended up in an abandoned building as the lady showed him all the skeletons hidden inside a room. The lady quickly accused the man to be responsible for the killing by referring to the skeleton. The story goes that women went missing after a night out with a man. The man tried to deny it but had finally gave in to his real form - a demon. The lady sprang to action and managed to subdue the demon with ease. Now, now, isn’t this is familiar? Then two men came to her immediately after she had killed the demon. These two men are the same men from earlier on who turned out to be from the Highway Administration Office. They gave the lady, also known as Miss Lady, a mission to accomplish.

Devil May Cry (preview)

The first episode or pilot episode is mainly introduction. Not much details to it, so the synopsis will be brief (hopefully) and with more screenshots for viewing pleasure. Devil May Cry is my first summer anime review and hopefully another title will be added soon as I have an empty slot for the outgoing Death Note. This may be slated to Baccano, which I see great potentials to it.

Alas, the most anticipated summer spring anime for this year has finally debuts with the first episode. For those who are not familiar with Devil May Cry, I reckon them to play the game first before watching this anime. That includes myself. My experience on anime tells me that game-based animes are usually oriented on the game storyline rather than the anime itself. To truly understand the whole story, you must play the game. But why should I bother about it? Devil May Cry is a remedy for adrenaline junkies who hooked up to shounen anime and surely enough, this anime title is nothing like your usual demon-killing genre anime. Closest we get to this is Hellsing. Hellsing fans would likely love this anime in an instant but probably reject it due to the possible vague storyline. Come on, this is a game-based anime. One thing for sure, with the release of this anime, there is a window of possibilities in store for other game titles to make it to anime.

A man was seen walking to a pub and ordered a strawberry sundae. The bartender laughed at his request but this man in red got serious when he talked about a bar that take human lives for payment instead of money. A man who was playing poker nearby began to charge towards him but the man in red already had pointed a gun and shot him. The two men who were playing poker turned out to be demons. After finishing them off, he went upstairs to get the bartender. Using his huge sword, he strike to the door and killed the bartender. Just as the man was about to leave, the bartender changed into a demon but the other man was prepared for that. Saying “bingo”, he shot at the demon. This opening is one of the most intense among most animes that I have watched. And of course, seeing the man in red already requires no introduction for him. To gamers, it is noticeable that this man is Dante.
