The Anime Blog Awards

I was checking my mail earlier today when I came upon a mail bearing the title “Inaugural Anime Blog Award”. I was perplexed indeed but equally excited because for a moment, I actually thought that I was nominated for some anime blog award. Nonetheless I know my chances are dead zero. Here’s an excerpt of the invite:

Given the exponential growth of the anime blogosphere, the number of quality blogs with insightful opinions and perspectives are ever increasing. Yet a majority of the blogs out there remain isolated, lacking a sense of community and meaningful interaction. The Anime Blog Awards was created in order to bridge that gap by recognising worthy bloggers and their achievements in various fields.

I greatly applaud this move. Mainly because now, anime bloggers felt more appreciated though they may not necessarily got nominated for it. This award serves the unifying purpose among the anime blogger community as well as awarding those outstanding ones among the lot. I wasted no time to register myself and name my nomination list for those notable anime blogs that I’m currently following.

 The Anime Blog Awards

The initiative began on 19th March 2008 and the works are progressing to the promotional and nomination stages. Though the official date of the Anime Blog Awards (ABA) is 1st April, nominations will be carried out since 20th March and continues until 22nd April. Voting will begin on 25th April until 1st June before the final results are out. There are many nomination categories to choose from, so nominate those anime blogs appropriately to its categories. In order to nominate, you must first register to the blog and give out at least 9 nominations for 9 different categories. It’s a little tedious but the rationale is so that everyone takes this award prizing event seriously, not simply nominate and leave.

Well, I already gave my nominations for ABA. Anime bloggers, please pledge your support to this initiative. Also, remember to vote once the nominations are in. Stay tuned.

Spring 2008 Anime Preview

BrianAndrew is now officially 1 year old. This blog has been running on WordPress ever since the exodus from Blogspot on 1 March 2007. Support for this blog has been good and I thank the readers for your tremendous support.

The anime listing for Spring 2008 is overshadowed by the highly anticipated Code Geass R2, the sequel to Code Geass. Yes, I am a fan and I do look forward to it very much. However this does not mean that we have to sideline other notable anime titles slated for Spring 2008, right? So here are some titles that I am keen to watch and probably blog about (if, time permits).

Code Geass R2
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2
Airing date: 6 April 2008
TV station: MBS
Animation studio: Sunrise
Lelouch is back to kick Brittania’s sorry ass. But wait a second. What happened after he and Suzaku shot at each other? All of the sudden, there is a one year leap (approximately) and that pretty much leaves us clueless about the story. At least, that’s what the trailer had suggested. Obviously this story needs no introduction and there is no surprise that I will be blogging this. All hail Brittania!

Nabari no Ou
Nabari no Ou
Airing date: 6 April 2008
TV station: TV Tokyo
Animation studio: J.C. Staff
My friend recently introduced the manga to me and I was impressed by how good the art style is. This is the reason why I am looking forward for its anime adaptation. The manga is serialized in GFantasy, published by Square Enix, and is still on going. If that doesn’t interest you, then how about having Kugimiya Rie and Namikawa Daisuke in the cast? The prospect is definitely looking up. The story is pretty much the typical ninja-adventure kind of story, which is really not my cup of tea. I guess it’s okay if I just overlook my stereotype and try to get hold to this anime. There is a good chance that I’ll be blogging on this anime.

BUS GAMER
BUS GAMER
Airing date: 14 March 2008
TV Station: KBS Kyoto
Animation studio: Studio Izena
If there is any reason why am I watching this anime, it is because I am a fan of Kazuya Minekura’s works. Those who are familiar with this manga artist, you might know her well for her works in the Saiyuki manga series. And yes, those animes like Gensoumaden Saiyuki, Saiyuki Reload, Saiyuki Reload: Gunlock as well. This time around though, it won’t be about 4 guys travelling to the West anymore. Instead we have 3 guys now playing survival games for the money. Not going to blog about this but this one is a recommended one from me.

Soul Eater
Soul Eater
Airing date: 10 April 2008
TV Station: TV Tokyo
Animation studio: BONES
Yet another manga by Square Enix adapted as anime this time around is Soul Eater. On the scratch, the story is about creating a human weapon as the “Death Scythe” for the Shinigami. As the name suggests, they need to consume 99 human souls and 1 from a witch. The good thing is they are after the bad guys, so there’s your sense of morale into the story. With BONES as the animation studio, I guess that you can’t go wrong with anime. As likely that I will watch this, there is also a good likelihood that I may not blog this anime.

Vampire Knight
Vampire Knight
Airing date: 7 April 2008
TV Station: TV Tokyo
Animation studio: Studio DEEN
Somehow I am compelled to bring at least one shoujo anime into the list. Not that I have anything against shoujo anime/manga because I do watch them and I really do enjoy some of the titles. However among the available Spring 2008 anime listing, I find Vampire Knight the most pleasing one. So we have a girl gotten attacked by a vampire and got saved by another one. Then they grew up together with another friend of hers who really hates vampires. Now imagine the chemistry going on around them, the romance is set to be spicy. My impression? Well, it’s too early to tell. Oh, did I tell you that Miyano Mamoru and Horie Yui are among the cast?

Code Geass R2 trailer release

As we all know Code Geass is back this year with the sequel Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2. The airing date has been confirmed on April 2008 on its partner channel MBS. Obviously those who follow the story are not happy with the cliffhanger ending because cliffhanger just sucks. Story-wise there won’t be much of a change but if this is Code Geass, then expect more unexpected plot twists that makes everyone beg for more. However judging from the trailer, I am a little worried that Lelouch might have lost his Geass and there will be little attention to CC’s history. If these two were to happen especially the latter, I’m losing my confidence in this sequel already. Nonetheless with season 1 as the benchmark, season 2 definitely worth the anticipation.

Makeover?

Finally, the popular demand for Darker Than Black is getting onto the fansubs to get things working. Although the subbers are anonymous, I must say that I appreciate their job - despite their bad subs (but it’s better than to have none). However from this experience, the lesson ought is to learn Japanese.

I’m making slight changes to the blog - in case you didn’t noticed. This includes a brand new blog statistics. Basically my blog stats would reset back to zero. Just to keep the record straight, I’ll keep the default statistics for another week before I make a total transition to the new blog stats. Another cool feature I’ve added is the statistics map, which tell me and the readers where are the other readers originate from. Don’t worry, this is not CIA. No pin-point location is given. But still, it is a cool feature. Also more initiative buttons were added. Do please check those out - and I’m not doing this as an advertisement.

Another matter is this blog’s new name. I am aware that this blog has gone several changes in its name - from Life’s Never Normal to Chronicles by Brian (err… just 2 changes). However I’m making this final. Presenting BrianAndrew - my personal space on the web. Hopefully when I get my own domain, I would rename it (again) to BrianAndrew.net (unless there are sponsors, I’m taking it all).

Darker Than Black New OP and ED

Both of the songs - Kakusei Heroism ~The Hero Without A Name~ and Dreams are available for download in the download section.

Expectedly Darker Than Black has released their new second opening and ending theme. The opening song by Antic Cafe is entitled Kakusei Heroism ~The Hero Without A “Name”~ while the ending song by HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR is entitled Dreams. From my point of view, the new opening song is good but not as exciting compared with the first one, HOWLING by abingdon boys school. Some rock music elements are much appropriate to suit the theme songs for Darker Than Black. That is why their second opening track is a letdown. However the new second ending song is much worse disappointment. Just about when I got attached with the first ending song, Tsukiakari by Rie Fu, this second ending song did not gain much of my attention. To sum it all, their new opening and ending theme is less better compared to the previous ones. With this, all I am saying is that the songs are not all bad altogether. It’s just that the songs are a little less exciting by comparison.

I wanted to upload the AMV for the second opening and ending theme for Darker Than Black on YouTube myself but due to some encoding errors, I failed to fulfill that. That is why I am borrowing someone else’s video. Credits to Hadesillo for the video.

Sorry, you bald, middle-aged perverts. But thanks for the hit anyway.
