Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (Episode 2)

The story begins to become repetitive. Take the opening scene for an instance. Here is the scenario: Once again, Fuura is embracing life – speaking of the wonders of morning. And yet again, she came across Zetsubou Sensei Nozomu trying to kill himself by jumping into the track of the running train. Thankfully a traffic officer tried to stop him and Fuura too came to stop Nozomu from suicide. Well she’s not helping. She accidentally pushed Nozomu over the automatic gate and he fell over, nearly missed being hit by the train. Nozomu scolded back, “What if I’d die?” Familiar, isn’t it? Not to the least, the jokes made it enjoyable and of course Nozomu’s futile attempt of suicide. Also this episode reminds me of NHK ni Youkoso as Nozomu began to have some paranoid ideas about the corporate scams and so on.

Nozomu is having his daily suicide attempt.

Kafuka is only trying to help to grant his wish.

Nozomu approached Arai, the school counselor as he was worried that his money would be stolen. He believed that a certain organisation installed skimming devices on automated turnstiles and get informations of his and millions of others’ credit and ATM cards. Suddenly his paranoia is baseless. I know that he is in despair but I did not expect him to paranoid for the nonsense. It can’t be helped, that is his nature. Somehow this reminds me of Tatsuhiro Sato. So he decided to end his life. Of course he won’t. Nozomu is just all dramatic. Arai then asked him to see on a student who is a hikikomori (a social recluse). At first he refused the favour but a cold stare from Arai forced him to go. Nozumo reached in front of the house of the hikikomori student when he stumble upon Kafuka who actually lived in that area. The hikikomori girl is a rather tough one, even his father could not convinced her to come out of her room. Yet Kafuka found it impossible to see a hikikomori as what she usually sees on TV. Instead she’s calling the hikikomori girl a zashiki warashi – a cheerful spirit that protects a home. Nozumo found her positive way of thinking as terrifying but he took it as an excuse to keep the hikikomori staying inside her house without pulling an effort to drag her out to school.

A hikikomori is actually a ghoul.

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
Hikikomori should stay home.

But if you want them out, just do a ritual.

Kafuka asked Nozomu to check her out from the window to make sure that she does not escape. As he tried to climb down the roof, he fell and he strangled himself on the neck. This scared the hikikomori and she tried to escape. But the door was bolted and so she forced her way out. Yet Kafuka had made some ritual arrangements prepared outside her room and this spooked her out. She finally gave in and broke down to tear. Nozumu noticed how beautiful she really is and asked her name. Komori Kiri is her name. The next day, Nozomu was complimented yet again for his job well done for bring back Kiri back to school. Well technically. She came out of the house but she confined herself in the school instead. Talk about creepy. Now to a different story. Nozomu noticed a student named Tsunetsuki Matoi was absent from his class. It turns out that Matoi is a stalker who is paying extra attention to his current boyfriend. Looking to her past boyfriends, Nozomu concluded that her personality changes according to her boyfriend. Suddenly Kafuka came up to them, stating her disbelief to see a stalker. Kafuka in a positive tone, said that Matoi is deeply in love. Meanwhile in the tea ceremony club with Chiri and the rest of the members, they were having cake for their tea. Since there were four of them and there were four strawberries on the cake, Chiri was able to slice the cake equally. However more people are coming one by one, then finally Chiri reached a ridiculous solution – putting the cake into the blender and have it as a form of drink (or juice of some kind).

Now back to Matoi. She went to see her boyfriend and check him out. Nozomu who appeared through the window (out of nowhere) suggested that the ultimate form of love is committing suicide together. That is one crazy way to profess your love to each other. He even brought along his suicide kit for them to use. Somehow Matoi was not fazed by the idea and left the place (and her boyfriend). The next day in class, Matoi entered the class with a new image. Somewhat imitating Nozomu’s appearance. Later on, it is Nozomu who is being stalked by Matoi. The pressure was overwhelming for Nozomu and he intended to stay inside the school for awhile. While resting inside the nurse’s office, he lied calmly on the bed. Then Chiri who slept on the adjoining bed, rolled all the way to Nozomu’s bed. Both of them abruptly woke up to see each on the same bed. They were embarrassed by it but Chiri got the wrong impression about what had happened and made a crazy conclusion (again) to get married. Matoi’s former boyfriend what curious about why Matoi is leaving him alone after all that pestering and stalking. He too resorted on stalking over Matoi is stalking on Nozomu. Meanwhile the guy is stalked by his other girlfriend who is being stalked by a middle-aged man who always have her as his female host and he too was being stalked by his wife who is being stalked by an admirer from the laundry shop. Apparently Nozomu is leading this chain of stalkers but he had enough. He managed to escape from all the stalkers after he ran across Chiri who was persisting to get married with him. Unfortunately inside the washroom where he hides, Kiri was there. Nozomu is victimized by stalkers.

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
She stalks on Nozomu?!

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
Nothing nasty happened really.

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
“While we’re at it, lets get married.”

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
A line of stalkers… creepy.

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
And their target is Nozomu, in some way.

No preview shown for the next episode – other than more despair from Itoshiki Nozomu.
