Gundam 00 (Episode 19)

Continuing from the previous, Exia engaged with the Thrones. The Trinitys are surprised by Setsuna’s move, believing that they are allies but Setsuna does not acknowledge them as Gundam Meisters. Eventually Virtue joins Exia to fight against the Thrones and their fighting came to Ptolemaios’ knowledge. Though Lockon asked for his course of action from Sumeragi, Allelujah remained as he intended to stay and protect Ptolemaios.

All three Thrones are ready for battle.

And the only opponent there is Exia.

Dynames took off to the fighting coordinates. Meanwhile Alejandro who gotten the news, mentioned that they will move their plan to Stage 3 and that they can’t turn back now. Virtue and Exia who are fighting against the Thrones, got into their combat formations to make a strike on them. Both of Setsuna and Tieria have never thought that they will be working together for the same intention. As Virtue engages them, its bulky size hinders its mobility but what the Trinitys did not know is Virtue’s high mobility option – Gundam Nadleeh. So Tieria unveiled Nadleeh and immediately initiated the Trial system, which emits a jamming wave that renders Thrones Eins and Drei immobile. Trial System uses a direct link to Veda to create jamming system for Nadleeh. So Tieria charged towards Neena and Johann to slash their Gundams when all of the sudden, Nadleeh’s link to Veda got disconnect (a flash on Alejandro’s sinister smile suggests that he’s responsible for it) which allows both Johann and Neena to make their escape. Tieria then realized about the missing data inside Veda when he did a system check earlier and figured that Veda is compromised. To Tieria’s luck, Lockon came just in time to support them. Johann had no other choice but to retreat.

However before leaving, Johann revealed Lockon’s real name – Neil Dylandy – proving that he gained access to entry-level data on Veda. He added that the people whom Lockon wanted revenge on is also his own teammate. He revealed that the person who is a former Krugis terrorist of the KPSA that goes by the name Soran Ibrahim is none other than Setsuna F. Seiei. This terrorist group was the one responsible to the deaths of Lockon’s family. After said that, the Trinity sibling left. Leaders baffled on their decision to disarm, following the pressure from Celestial Being and their Gundams. Suddenly all of them received a call from someone alleged to be a member of Celestial Being. Meanwhile Saji was still with Louise in the hospital in Spain. She advised him to return to Japan and continue studying to achieve his dream to work in space. Saji refused at first but she insisted that she will be bothering him. Not after Louise asked him to fulfill her wish (which was not revealed), only then Saji agreed to her request. Back in Japan, Kinue was still on her investigation on Celestial Being and scooped some information on “Laguna”. It turns out that “Laguna” refers to Laguna Harvey who owns the orbital elevator and also the news company Kinue is working for, JNN. Her partner asks her to quit her investigation then and there but Kinue refused to as she just got started.

Back to the Gundam’s island hideout, Lockon asked Setsuna if what Johann told them earlier is true. Setsuna did not deny any of it. Lockon admits that his revenge for his family’s deaths was the reason why he decided to fight as a Gundam Meister. He is also aware that Setsuna is not the one to blame in the whole scenario but his anger got the best of him as he pointed his gun at Setsuna. He pulled the trigger. The shot did not hit Setsuna though but Setsuna was calm and composed. Setsuna told his side of the story when he used to believe in God but then realized that there is no God in the first place. He said the KPSA leader was the one who manipulated him when he was a child to believe in this fake God – Ali Al-Saarchez. He also explains the part when he went out from his cockpit to confront Ali during the previous battle in Moralia who was a PMC member then. So Lockon asked Setsuna another question: what will he do with Exia? He gave an obvious answer, which is to eradicate war. Even when he is dead, he knows that Lockon will do it in his stead. Setsuna wants to fight as Setsuna, a Gundam Meister, not Soran Ibrahim. Hearing this answer, Lockon broke to laughters and noted Setsuna as a Gundam freak. Tieria made a rare expression by smiling, and wondered if the whole thing with Setsuna and Lockon is called human. Farther south to Antarctica, military representatives from all three world superpowers – AEU, Union, and HRL – arrived to a secret base that stores 30 pod-like units, which I suspect to be GN Drives.

This expression of Tieria is a classic. Captivating. Seducing. Bishounen-like.

Mobile Suit Gundam 00
ZOMG! 30 GN Drive units? 30 more Gundams?

I made my conclusion on the pod-like structures to be GN Drives, judging from the preview of the next episode. Apparently there will a new mobile suit that seems to be using a GN Drive. So we have a splendid episode for today. It more likely to suspect Alejandro as the one who pull the strings around the recent events and that he has a secret agenda on his own. And there’s also the involvement of Laguna who might be referred to Laguna Harvey, an influential businessman. I have no doubt on the fact that Laguna might be another member of Celestial Being but I can’t tell whether the recent events – the emergence of Gundam Thrones and the mass production of GN Drive – are necessary to achieve Celestial Being’s endgame. Obviously there is more to Aorelia’s wish than just eradicating warfare. Hard to tell where the plot is heading to but for now, I can tell that there is a mutual understanding between AEU, Union and HRL to work together for the same objective. This is no indication on the real plan though. Overall this episode is equally good to the previous one, if not, a little boring. Yes, the Gundam fight was cool. Yes, the Setsuna-Lockon confrontation was cool. Yes, the 30 freaking GN Drives was a shocker and cool. But no, the insert song was too corny and the flashbacks are dragging the story. I wondered if the writers are half-hearted to make this episode a recap episode. Nevertheless all of these are forgivable after seeing Tieria’s bishounen smile. My perspective on him changed in this episode. Moreover there is a sure-tell that Tieria might not be a human and my guess is a mediator for Veda. Gosh! A.I.?
