Today at 8 p.m., Earth Hour will commence. Earth Hour is a global initiative that aims to offset global warming by reducing carbon emission and this is done simply by turning off the lights for a whole hour. Though Malaysia is not participating in this event, USM (the university I’m currently studying in) is joining the effort and I, myself offered my participation. Even you can join along and help to save the planet in simple ways you never expected. And turning off the lights is surprisingly helps the purpose. Visit the Earth Hour website for more details.
When I was told that there is a Swedish restaurant in downtown Kota Bharu, I was rather shocked to hear this yet delighted because knowing that there is such a restaurant in Kelantan. My friend first introduced the place to me as Sven’s Deli House. Not bad to name a restaurant, that is what I had thought in mind. What is more convincing to me is that according to my friend, the owner is a native Swedish. What can go wrong if you have a Swedish operating a Swedish restaurant? However once my friends and I set our foot there last night, I began to think that I should have doubted a such convincing expectation in the first place.
Svea’s Svea Deli House
What is suppose to be Sven’s Deli House is actually Svea Deli House. If the name of the place is already grammatically wrong, you can dump all hopes on it altogether. On a glance, the layout of Svea Deli House is a little similar to the restaurants at Asian Heritage Row, KL. The only difference is the posh factor, in which the former obviously does not have. And oh, do not remind me of the furniture there please. The table that we used and the chair that I sat upon are all wobbly as if that they would crumble should I force more nudge on them. In fact, I was not comfortable with my chair at all. Simply because the chair actually has a hole on the center. I felt like I was sitting on a toilet bowl. Seriously. Cleverly, they used pieces of cloth to cover the chair and hence, concealing the hole. A sitting in that restaurant is never comfortable.
Inside Svea Deli House

The restaurant may look homey but this space doesn’t look so nice.
Warming up Coca Cola for the customers. Wait. This is wrong.
On the bright side, the atmosphere is very homey. The setup was made in such a way that it reminds me of Central Perk. It may not look exactly like it but it does feel that way. Regardless of anything, I would appreciate it better if the deli house really adapts closely to Central Perk. And also the food. Not that I really enjoy the food which I’ve ordered though. The thing is that they also offer beef steaks and lamb chops in the menu. Nicholas ordered the beef steak and it was amazing indeed. He gave his compliments and judging from the looks, the meat did look very promising. I can’t judge much though since it is not the food that I’ve ordered. Sadly I got myself a plate of chicken roll, completely ignoring the fact that they do serve lamb there which is something that I’ve been longing for all this while. Overall, I can’t say that the meal was very bad. It’s good but it was not filling. It is pretty mediocre, if I must say because the chicken rolls are nothing but fried chicken rolled to round pieces. We also got ourselves a serving of ice cream. It is not exactly ice cream to me but more like ice-blended drinks. Mine was a vanilla blend with blueberry. And it was extremely sweet. Too sweet that I did not enjoy it at all. Nonetheless I forced myself to finish it.
My iced
lemon lime tea. Orange juice at the back.
Forgot the name but I think this is Chicken Chop with Cheese.
My dinner plate, Chicken Rolls.
While at it, we entertained ourselves with a game of Jenga. It is supposed to be Jenga but we took it as an Uno Stacko game, which is totally wrong because there is no cards at play. And for that matter, we also played Jenga the wrong way but it didn’t matter. All we wanted is just to kill some time.
Having a game of Jenga.
Nicholas makes a block lesser from the tower.
Yan Ling is a natural pro in this game. Salutes!
Cheah Yen is having fun with this game.
