So episode 1 review is delayed once more. Outpops the release of a heavy weight group, Group C as compared to two relatively newbie groups, Group A and R (correct me if I’m wrong). I decided to be funky and run all three videos at the same time using VLC, MPC and WMP to compare their subtitles.
Conclusion
Even though I’m not well-verse in spoken japanese but logic dictates after comparison/relating subs to what’s happening onscreen that the heavyweight is precise and shows no major errors as far as I can tell. However, this group decided to be aggressive in translating and translated hijutsu into ‘secret arts’. However, they left the villian’s village name alone in the japanese form unlike the second group, Group A which translated it into english. A little inconsistency on the heavyweight’s part eh? Group B left hijutsu alone but that’s a special term so that’s a good enough reason. Now let’s move on to Group R…First of all, I am thankful to the various groups who does the community a service of doing this for free and at their own free time. However…not all free stuff are filled with goodies. Without further ado, here’s a hiccup of free stuff: (it’s version 2 btw)
Group R: Uhm, pet peeve of being first in alphabetical order? uhhhh, you don’t need jap to know something’s not right here.
Group C: Uhm, information overload might not be that good all the time. Kudos to 100% precision and accuracy.
Group A: By layman for layman. Yay?
Ending comments
Besides the above fiasco about having one’s name first on the list as a pet peeve, other forums have also pointed out that Group R mistranslated grandmother as aunt which the other two groups got right(brownies for you two?). HOWEVER, I AM SAD TO ANNOUNCE THAT THE TOP NOTCH VIDEO QUALITY GOES TO GROUP R! It has the least noise and is the sharpest of all. Although I know many are fans of heavyweight Group C, I decided that Group A was my favourite out of all three WHICH JUST HAPPENS TO HAVE THE WORST VIDEO QUALITY among all three even though all three are *supposely* 720p. The reason being: Group A actually bothered to break up the sentences of what a person was saying and timed it exactly as compared to Group C which just threw everything onto the screen in one mega-long sentence. Yada, so flame me for being picky. In other words, just go for the group that you love most. Screw the translation and anime, it’s all about the group!
