Code Geass R2 episode 03

After telling Xingke his intention, Rollo got a phone call all of the sudden. To his surprise, the call was from Lelouch at school with Villetta there to confirm it. This leaves Rollo with no other choice but to turn back. More after the jump.

The whole commotion brought all the Britannia army surrounding the Chinese Federation embassy. Though Kallen thought Lelouch did amazingly, it turns out the person behind Zero’s mask is actually C.C. Kallen is more curious about when did she and Lelouch swapped places. C.C. revealed that the voice was pre-recorded by Lelouch earlier. Meanwhile Lelouch was helping out in the kitchen with the student council members although Shirley is not much of a help. In the midst of the cheerful mood, Lelouch is gravely concerned about how Nunnally is forgotten by them and got replaced by a fake brother instead. Speaking of Rollo, he went to a secret base of Britannia’s Secret Intelligence Agency somewhere in the school’s deep underground. The team reported their surveillance on Lelouch and their leader, Villetta believes that their surveillance system is perfect enough to catch Lelouch behaving deviantly. However the team’s true objective is to capture C.C. On the other hand, Lelouch theorized about Nunnally being under the Emperor’s captivity and decided to trick them out to convince the Britannia army that he is not Zero. Knowing that his Geass can only be used once and that Villetta has already being used for, Lelouch turns to Rollo and get him to his side. Somewhere in Europe, the European Union army is taking the defensive against the forwarding Britannia army. Although the Europeans took firm hold on their ground, it was not until Lancelot comes to annihilate the entire European troop.

Lelouch is flipping through the photo album when Rollo comes up to him. He then asked Lelouch about how did he was able to escape the terrorist attack at the Babel Tower. He told him that he escaped by an emergency route and that he was not able to contact him back then. Lelouch noticed Rollo’s locket, which he gave to him as a birthday present and that Rollo’s “birthday” coincides with Nunnally’s birthday. So he asked the locket back from him but Rollo refuses to hand over, much to Lelouch’s surprise. Later on, Rollo went to report to Villetta when another member of the team comes up to them. Rollo acts in defense to the secrecy of the Geass and kills that man instantly using his Geass. At the Chinese embassy, Kallen grows weary about their counting days being surrounded by the Britannia army while Lelouch has yet to give out any orders whatsoever. Looking at her bunny suit, she immediately goes to see C.C. to talk about it without knowing that she is having Gaohai and Xingke as guests of audience. She runs away in embarrassment of her half nude self. Suddenly they received a bad news about the scheduled execution of Ougi and the rest of the arrested members of the Black Knights. Lelouch is also watching the same broadcast when Shirley comes to him and tell him about buying Villetta a birthday present. Lelouch decided to join her to pick a present and Rivalz overheard this conversation. Sometime later, Lelouch is inside the washroom and removed his left contact lens to reveal his Geass. It was given to him by C.C. and is specially made to conceal his permanent Geass while the Geass is yet to become stronger.

As he leaves the house, he meets Rollo and tells him where he is heading to. Milley and Rivalz later come to him and told Rollo to join them as they plan to tail behind Lelouch and Shirley going out together. However when Lelouch and Shirley are shopping for wines, he had already figured that Milley and the rest would spy on them. Looking at Lelouch’s behaviour on the other hand, makes Rollo and Villetta doubting that Lelouch may not regained his memory yet. What they do not know is Lelouch is now using his Geass on an employee of the mall. He then went to see Shirley outside and told her that Milley and the rest are following them. They later went to a store where Lelouch changes his clothes in a fitting room after telling Shirley to pretend that he is there with the excuse that he plans to sneak up on Milley and the rest. Inside Lelouch calls in a bomb threat at the mall and this causes an alert among the mall employees. He is being followed as soon as he leaves the store and all he is waiting for is the emergency alarm to set off by the person whom he used his Geass on earlier. Once the alarm goes off, panic erupted in the mall and the chaos gives Lelouch the advantage to shake away the surveillance on him. Rollo meanwhile quickly went to the secret base but got a gun pointed to his head instead. It turns out to be Lelouch who managed to figure out their objective of capturing C.C. after using his Geass on the man who tailed him earlier. Just about when Lelouch wanted to use his Geass on him, Rollo already used his time-stopping Geass and turns the table on him as he intends to kill Lelouch. Meanwhile the grounds of the Chinese embassy got bombed and Xingke begins to take down the Black Knights one after another, telling them that they should perish then and there.

Thoughts: Despite the video leak, which leaves us fans pretty much in distraught, this week’s episode is surprisingly good although the biggest spoiler of the episode is already known from the video leak. This is exactly the reason why Code Geass is so amazing, in terms of plot writing. I was a little worried that the writers may change the story after the leak incident but fortunately, none was changed. I guess the writers have all the confidence that the episode is no less dull even with the last 6 minutes revealed prematurely. As for this episode, we get to know Rollo’s true Geass, which is to stop time. But with careful observations, there are some limitations to his power. The obvious limitation is the area of effect of his Geass that is reasonably small. I would have figured that everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) would stop once Rollo activates his Geass. No doubt of the limitation when the waterfall behind Villetta continued flowing when Rollo used his Geass. Well, it’s either he stops time in a limited area or he could only stop people from moving. Too early to tell but I’ll go for the former for now. What I like about this episode is that Lelouch has great concern about his friends and tries his best to keep them from getting involved with his affairs as Zero. This shows how good a person Lelouch is when it comes to where it matters most, unlike a particular fellow whom I hate. *cough*Suzaku*cough*

I also enjoy the moment where Kallen got caught in only her towel or rather appeared nonchalantly in front of the host of the Chinese embassy. She looks so cute, especially when she ran back behind the tinted mirror. And also if you noticed this, you can also see that concerned look on Villetta’s face when Ougi’s execution was announced. At the scene where Shirley was sampling around for some songs, the headphones she was wearing kind of reminds me on Chobits somehow. And she looks absolutely cute too. Call me a fanboy but I find that all the girls in this episode look incredibly cute. Kyaa~

Next episode: Lelouch is going to settle the score with Rollo once and for all. Obviously from the preview, both will live but I am only curious of how the outcome of their confrontation from this episode.
