Code Geass R2 episode 10

The coup team led by Xingke and Xianglin realized that Zero has made use of their plan and took Tianzi into their custody. Zero challenged Xingke to give Tianzi the same freedom he wishes to give her. Proceeding to his plans, the Zangetsu – piloted by Todou – made its entrance. More after the jump.

Code Geass R2

Just about when Todou wanted to strike on Schneizel and the rest, Suzaku rushed to save them in the nick of time. While they both wrestled out with their Knightmares, Schneizel and his companions along with the Chief Eunuchs make their way out to safety. Meanwhile Chiba arrives with her Akatsuki Jikisanshiyo, carrying a container that holds Kallen’s Guren Nishiki. Zero escapes with it and takes Tianzi away with him. Todou battles Suzaku to the point where he used the Zhu Jin Cheng as cover. While Suzaku shifted his attention to the escaping Guren and Akatsuki, Todou used that opportunity to hit back at him and eventually severed Lancelot’s Float System. This allows Zero and his team to escape without Suzaku at their back. Xingke wanted to give chase but was immediately apprehended. Hey, a coup attempt is still a national security threat. Now, it’s the Chinese military that is doing the chasing. The escapees then made its way inside a huge container truck (the big rig) and Kaguya assured Tianzi that she is now at the outside world, outside of the Zhu Jin Cheng, as she had promised. Zero then begins to discuss politics with Tianzi, telling her that her kidnapping is necessary to form the United States of China, in accordance to his own United States of Japan as he seeks alliance between both nations along with other potential countries of South India, Mongolia and Burma (?!). Obviously politics is not a topic Tianzi is capable at. Kaguya changed the mood of conversation when she asked Tianzi of her relationship with Xingke. Tianzi denies this, saying that they had only made a promise. Zero feels out of sync and left them both alone. He goes to the driver’s seat with C.C. driving the big truck (heh!). The road they are on eventually leads to a dead end where the bridge ahead has had collapsed. Just as the Chinese have the Black Knights cornered, Zero had already prepared a trap for them by sending out Akatsukis to surround them instead.

Xingke now in custody, had already figured this out. Having convinced the butt-faced Eunuchs of his tactical brilliance, Xingke is allowed to be released and is given the privilege to use the special Knightmare. Zero made a safe return to the Ikagura – the Black Knights’ new commanding flagship. C.C. is curious how did Zero predicted a coup attempt by Xingke. It turns out that Lelouch had planned for the same thing as Xingke did but he got ahead of the plan with his ever-dependable Geass. As soon as he and C.C. arrive at the control room, the front Akatsuki escort is destroyed. Lelouch was surprised to see that his plan had been outsmarted and even more surprised to see a new enemy Knightmare ahead. The Knightmare Shenhu is so powerful, even Xingke who pilots it, is amazed by its ability and further disgusted by the Eunuchs’ sneaky ways. When he demanded Tianzi to return to them, Kallen defies him and fights him with the Guren. The maintenance team on board Ikagura expressed concern about the Guren’s refill pack that has not yet being replaced though Tamaki confidently assured that her skills are enough to defeat Xingke. However in the control room, Lakshata casts concern to the team when she admits to be responsible for the Shenhu’s development. In fact, her team made Shenhu so powerful that no one has ever be able to pilot. Unfortunately Shenhu that was originally built for India had fallen into the hands of the Chinese and now, this supposedly pilot-less Knightmare have already got its own pilot. As expected, Shenhu overwhelmed Guren Nishiki and Kallen was about to turn the table by using the Radiation Wave but the Guren ran out of energy. Things gotten worse when a huge fleet of Chinese army bombarding at them. Kallen is now held as a hostage at the Chinese Federation. Zero assured Kallen that he will come to save her and Ougi ordered a retaliation but Diethard quickly proposed a retreat, saying that she is just another soldier and that they should join with the Indian Army that awaits them at Hourai Island. In the end, Zero decides that Kallen should be saved, very much to the relief of the Black Knights. And mine too.

At the Avalon, Milley is with Suzaku and Anya when Anya showed them her photo album on her mobile device – including the picture where Lelouch was with C.C. and a picture of a much younger Lelouch though I cannot figure the significance of the latter photo. Back at the battlefield, the war of tactics breaks out with both Xingke and Lelouch attempting to outsmart each other. In battle, water suddenly rushes in as the nearby canal collapsed. Lelouch had already taken this into factor by decreasing the volume of water at that canal. However Xingke reveals the real intention to the plan. That little water is already enough to cripple all the Akatsuki at ground as mud begins to sink the Akatsukis down. This gives the Chinese army the advantage to charge towards the Ikagura. Lelouch is shocked by this humiliating defeat and orders out a retreat. He also admits to Xingke’s amazing tactical skills as himself and the fighting courage as Suzaku’s. But Xianglin reveals that Xingke does not have time by his side, probably that he is dying of a disease. Before making a retreat, Zero proved that he had not used all the tricks in his sleeves as the Ikagura fires a powerful cannon that annihiliated the entire pursuing Chinese Knightmares. While the Chinese army is still shaken from the attack, the trapped Knightmares are then rescued and the Ikagura with the rest of the Akatsukis retreat to the Tiandi Mausoleum where the past generation of Tianzis were buried – a place where the Chinese Federation not dare to lay a finger on. With the Ikagura positioned readily to fire the huge cannon ahead at the Chinese army, Xingke on the other hand is rounded up by the army for treason by rallying a coup. Instead the Knights of Round already on standby to assist the Chinese army in Xingke’s stead. However Lelouch is feeling more motivated as the greatest stage has been set up and the showdown in which he expects to win. Back in Ashford Academy, the news confirmed the attacks at the Chinese Federation and to everyone’s relief, Lelouch received a call from Milley who told them of her safety. This is odd, considering that Lelouch is actually at the Chinese Federation as Zero.

Thoughts: This episode has pretty much proves what Xingke is capable of. And also the very powerful Shenhu. Xingke seems to be that perfect package – possess the brilliant mind of Lelouch and the wits of Suzaku. The muddy water tactic and his direct involvement in battlefield are the concrete evidences to this. And as suspected, he is dying. That is his only flaw. As far as tactic is concerned, Lelouch should now take advantage of the situation faced by Xingke for the moment. He should be talking his way to convince Xingke to his side and probably taking Shenhu with him – something he would probably do in the next episode. If all goes well, this idea of Lelouch to have an independant nation within the Chinese Federation with Tianzi as its head will work out much better than in Area 11. Because of Tianzi, of course. Everyone loves a loli empress, right? Anyways, that should be happening and probably in that way, Kallen could be rescued or maybe assumes her role as a hostage a little longer, thus creating a “knight in shining armor to save the princess in distress” kind of situation and further strengthen the possible romantic relationship between Lelouch and Kallen. A matter that took an interesting turn is the appearance of Lelouch, or what I suspect to be a fake Lelouch, at Ashford Academy in the last scene where Lelouch is supposed to be in Chinese Federation to prepare for the final battle. Words going about is that that presumably fake Lelouch (or not, who knows?) is actually Sayako with her amazing make-up and acting skills. Well, she used to be a spy anyway.

Just like the previous episodes, this episode is not without its own quirks. The first was the unsuspecting panda – expect more to come. Then there’s Cheese-kun, as always. The most notable one has to be the suspicion of sexual innuendo among the horny animators. If not, C.C. behind the wheel of a big rig! The writers are getting nuttier by the episode, noticably more than in season 1. On a side note, the new OP and ED – back with FLOW and Ali Project – will be used starting on the 6th July episode. That would be episode 13 by then.

Next episode: The big showdown, not the last one though. And yes, more airtime for Jeremiah Orange-kun.
