Code Geass R2 episode 11

After confirming that Milley is safe, Lelouch hands over his handkerchief to teary-eyed Shirley. Rollo noticed this and asked Lelouch to follow him outside. They walked to the library and into a secret room as Rollo tells him that he is being too nice to others. However Lelouch said that he did what he was instructed to. It was revealed that this Lelouch is actually Sayako who disguised in his place. More after the jump.

Code Geass R2

At the Chinese Federation, bombardment proceeds at the Royal Mausoleum regardless with Tianzi inside. Even Xingke is against the attack but the Chief Eunuchs already plan to have Tianzi dead and a replacement ready in her place. As all three fly-capable Akatsuki take the air, C.C. too decided to move with her own Akatsuki. And so the Britannia army attacks the Black Knights and the Chinese rebels. Meanwhile Zero tries to get in terms with the Eunuchs. However the Eunuchs said that it was non-negotiable as they claimed that the Tianzi is just a system despite using her as a bargain for Britannia nobility. They admit to have forsake the people and the country as they did not bother what would happen to them. They openly said to Zero that they have abandoned their people. As the assault on Ikagura intensify, Tianzi could not hold back and runs outside to tell them to stop fighting. Xingke sees this and wanted to shield her from the attacks but was hit by Tristan instead. The Eunuchs give their ultimatum to shoot at Tianzi and Xingke manages to give her cover. Situation turns dire as Shenhu slowly weakens from the continuous attack. This forces Xingke to cry out for help to anyone who is willing. It is Zero who rises up to the call. After a deafening explosion by the Chinese Federation army, the smoke clears and reveals the Black Knights’ new arsenal in the form of a Knightmare. The Knightmare Frame Shinkirou is Zero’s personal Knightmare, similar to the Gawain and is capable to deploy an ultra strong shield force – The Absolute Protection Shield. Equipped with the Druid System, Shinkirou is the strongest defensive Knightmare ever. But that is not the only feature the Shinkirou has. It then shoots out a prism which later being fed by a powerful beam that refracts the beam to dozens of pinpoint beams to destroy all the surrounding enemy Knightmares.

Later on, Zero tells Xingke that he is not capable to fight without him. However Xingke firmly states that he does not want to work under Zero but instead, Zero told him that won’t necessary be the case as he knows that he is capable to lead a country. It turns out that riot breaks out at Shanghai and at the same time, the same happens in other Chinese Federation-controlled territories including Beijing, Burma, Jakarta and Islamabad. This is all because of a broadcast secretly made by Zero. A broadcast of the conversation he had earlier with the Chief Eunuchs when they openly declared to have forsaken their people. So Zero took advantage of Xingke’s plan to use the people to rise up for the fight and this has already suffice for the Black Knights to use as reinforcements. In the heat of fighting, Nagisa and C.C. make a strike on Mordred when suddenly C.C. begins to experience flashbacks of Marianne and young Lelouch as her Geass marking reacts. Anya too feels the reaction. Asahina uses this opportunity to slash Mordred at the Float device, causing Mordred to fall to the ground. I wonder if it would be better if he slashes Mordred all the way through, which makes one less of an enemy to worry about. But hey, the story has just started. As the enemy ground troops are weaken, the Black Knights begin to charge their ground army. Although this would be advantageous for the Britannia to attack them from air, Schniezel on the other hand refuses to continue the battle as he finds it useless to defend a country in which the people’s support has been greatly wavered, thus, making the Chief Eunuchs no longer the power to represent the people. The Britannia army make their retreat, very much to Lelouch’s expectation of Schniezel. However they both can only wonder what the Emperor would do in that situation. In the wake, Xingke goes to where the Chief Eunuchs are and kills them. Then Zero comes in to ask for Kallen. Xianglin informs that Kallen was taken by Britannia. Nonetheless, Lelouch is determined to get Kallen back. Somewhere in the desert, Bartley and his men found themselves in the place where V.V. and Jeremiah are.

At Ikagura, Tianzi reunites with Xingke as he gives his vow to protect her always. Diethard then suggests to Zero to have the Tianzi’s marriage annulment to be announced and also to wed her with a Japanese would be a tactical advantage. Kaguya however opposes to the idea, saying that marriage is a question of love and not a political issue. Even C.C. and Nagisa support her opinion. This leaves Zero in an awkward crossroad. To his relief, Tamaki calls out for him and he uses him as an excuse to escape from them momentarily. Tamaki wanted to talk about his position in the Black Knights when Zero receives a call from Shirley. So, he shuts out Tamaki and takes the call. She discusses about Shirley’s graduation event with him and Lelouch comes to a point to ask her about breaking up a couple. Shirley answered that it is out of question as love gives a person great power in them to the extent of doing anything for love’s sake. She then asks if he too has someone like that and he realizes that he is doing exactly the same for his sister, Nunnally. After ending his call with Shirley, he immediately goes to see Tianzi and tells her that that her future is up to her to decide. He elaborates that love can be a source of power (in this case, the power to fight) using their fights as examples. Night time at Ashford Academy and Shirley is in the library when she stumbles upon Lelouch (Sayako). However the secret room from where Lelouch got out is still closing. This forces him (her) to make a bold move on her to avoid the room being seen. That bold move could be kissing. Back in Ikagura, Lelouch talks about the cult/organisation that is responsible to produce and research on Geass users, which he finds necessary to keep tabs on in order to defeat the Emperor in terms of Geass. From C.C.’s information, the cult is currently in Chinese Federation that is also the reason why he chose the area to fight on, as told by V.V. who succeeds her. He then heads for Area 11 and rejoins Rollo with Sayako by his side. Once he returns at school, he meets a gloomy-looking Shirley and unexpectedly, two familiar faces show up at Ashford Academy as new students – Anya and Gino.

Thoughts: I will be very direct. I starting to lose sight on Code Geass R2. Oh yes, this is coming out from a fan of the series. Allow me to justify myself. There is no denying that Code Geass is an awesome, ass-spanking anime. Code Geass R2 on the other hand, is losing the its accent from the first season. There are more fanservice in this second season at only 11 episodes. God knows what else would come in the coming episodes. This episode is not an exception. As the stroy progress further, it is natural to find the Knightmares to be in absolute coolness to the point where the Gundams might cry foul. Hey, have to credit the mecha designers this time. The new Knightmares – the Akatsuki, is not bad looking and may convince me well to buy the plasmo. Wait till it hits Malaysian stores. However not escaping the shameless fanservice are the girls of Code Geass. It’s no secret, the ladies of Code Geass are hot. But too much can be unbearable at times, especially for myself being an originalist. In regards to the story on the other hand, it seems as though the original writers of Code Geass are away and are replaced by the janitors working at the studio instead. The thrill that we get in the first season and the first three episodes of Code Geass is fading away the story delves further. The surprises that the writers always keep up with previously are waning down but at least, the surprises remain as what they are supposed to be.

In respect to this episode, the first surprise we get is not surprising after all. The rumours going around is true as it turns out that the other Lelouch is the ninja-bred Sayako. After being absent for several episodes, Rollo too makes a comeback but his role will probably remain minimal until where the story is beginning to picking up pace. Indeed, the plot is slowing down. Anyway, I am a little shocked to see the Chief Eunuchs have a small role in the story but I guess it would be better that way as the real battle has no relevance to them in the first place. There was a scene where C.C. has a sort of magical reaction when she fought against Anya and apparently Anya felt it too. Rekindling to the same thing that happened to Suzaku before in the first season, I wonder if there is any possibility that these two or maybe the whole Knights of Round (the Knight of One has yet to reveal himself) have any connection to the Geass in any way whatsoever. Not to say that they have Geass of their own but maybe they are a device against the Geass as something the Emperor may orchestrate later in the story. With the probable kiss scene of Lelouch and Shirley, this may give some unexpected trouble to Lelouch. Lelouch cares a lot for Shirley and with the kiss happening without his knowledge and while Sayako playing the role of his double, confusion is inevitable but I am far more concerned of its consequences. That translates to personal issues for Lelouch. Lastly is the cult as what Lelouch mentioned in this episode. There is no telling who are the cult members but it is likely that it is the people with the same ability as C.C. and V.V. There is a strong Britannia connection there and my guess is that C.C. was ousted from the cult after V.V. took control by siding for Emperor Charles and his Britannia Empire. Then it makes sense of why C.C. persistently pursues for Lelouch, probably to topple V.V. himself rather than the Britannia Empire.

Next episode: It seems to be another school festival. Yes, the party never ends in Ashford Academy. Now with Gino and Anya joining in, Lelouch is in for more uncertainties ahead. Also in the preview is what seems to be Cornelia. Or someone else dressing up like her. Though the next episode seems like a filler episode, it is Lelouch’s acrobatic act is something I look forward despite that it may be Sayako behind the mask.

The next episode isn’t a filler episode because Code Geass does not follow a manga series. Fillers come from anime series that run along with a manga and it doesn’t follow a manga for a little while. But Code Geass does not follow a manga so therfore it is not a filler episode.

I am fully aware that CG is not manga-based. Thus, it is not appropriate to consider it a filler. But I am saying that the episode “seems like a filler episode” in respect that the episode would turn out in such a way that there won’t be any real plot development, like any filler episodes would. I guess I have no other suitable terms to suit this “non-plot-developmental episode”. Just to keep the record straight here.
