Code Geass R2 episode 14

The year was a.t.b. 1997 when Marianne was still alive with C.C. by her side. V.V. and Charles were also there looking at them both. They reminded each other of their promise to slay the gods and rid of the world from all the lies. To the present day, Lelouch grieved momentarily over Shirley’s passing before came to him and told him that he killed Shirley over the suspicion that she would kill Lelouch for knowing his true identity. More after the jump.

Instead of lashing back at him out of anger as I would expect, Lelouch surprisingly applauded Rollo for a job well done. Also surprising is his sudden decision to assault on the Geass cult. He assured the worried Rollo not to wait and questioned if he is afraid of V.V. In the aftermath of Shirley’s death, the coroner reported to Suzaku that Shirley killed herself by gunshot. Her death nonetheless was hard on everyone in the school, especially Suzaku, Milly, Rivalz, and surprisingly Nina. At Hourai Island, Lelouch reveals his plan to wipe the Geass cult city. C.C. however did not find armed intervention as necessary as it is only a research facility. Sensing something is amiss, C.C. asked for what had happened. Lelouch then told her of Shirley’s death and he blames Geass for it to happen. He intended to eliminate everything related to Geass; leaving only himself with the power all for Shirley’s sake. She then wondered if that would mean to kill her as well. Lelouch is well aware that she is immortal and nothing can kill her. The same goes for V.V. Lelouch came to the point to ask her for her contract but she refuses to reveal it to him. At the Geass cult city, V.V. is receiving a transmission from Jeremiah but the video call turns out to be from Lelouch. They were surprised that Lelouch transmits this from Jeremiah’s network and suspected that he is making the transmission from Ashford Academy. V.V. demands C.C. from Lelouch but Lelouch denied his demand, saying that it is now a battle between them both. V.V. however warns Lelouch that they will be gone by the time his troops reach there. Suddenly Knightmares breached into the cult city as led by C.C.

It turns out that Lelouch had already prepared his team at the location of the cult city so as to stop V.V. from escaping. Attacks intensifies inside the hidden cult city but there was no resistance against the Black Knights. Meanwhile at Area 11, Kallen was having a nice chat with Nunnally and Kallen begins to ask her about Lelouch. Suddenly Suzaku barged into the room and interrupted them. Back at the cult city, the Black Knights are hesitating on continuing their attacks but Lelouch reminded them about Britannia’s purpose for the research facility to create immortal soldiers. Bartley and his men had just escaped from captivity were immediately shot dead by the Black Knights. In the Ikagura command room, Diethard informs the rest of the Black Knights commanders and allies about Zero’s ongoing secret operation. After the video call, Diethard turns to Sayako and told her to check on Ougi whom he suspected to be contacting Zero’s enemy. Back to the cult city, Mori, a Black Knights soldier was surprised to see a group of children in the facility. However when he got out from his Knightmare, one of the kids used his Geass on him and used him to attack his own comrades. Rollo who sees this immediately goes to the scenes and using his Geass, he killed all the children and also Mori. Lelouch reveals his plan to blow up Rollo inside his Knightmare which was planted with a bomb, together with V.V. He plans to do this as an offering to Shirley. Then Siegfried, a Knightmare formerly piloted by Jeremiah, appeared. The Siegfried is now piloted by V.V. All the attacks made on the Siegfried are futile against its strong electromagnetic shield. V.V. questions Jeremiah for his change of sides and he reveals his sworn loyalty for Marianne. V.V. was angered by that name and retaliated heavily against them. Back to Kallen, Suzaku planted a wrong thought into her and blames Lelouch for Shirley’s death.

Lelouch took advantage of the situation by ordering Rollo to hold onto the Siegfried by which he will detonate the bomb together with the Siegfried. Rollo tries desperately to approach V.V. However V.V. taunts Rollo, saying that he was a defective product who will die at any time as his heart stops whenever he uses his Geass. His Vincent immediately took damage from the Siegfried but somehow Rollo managed to grab hold. Lelouch was about to blow him up together with V.V. when suddenly the Siegfried took some shots from below, rendering Rollo to lose his grip on the Siegfried. The person attack V.V. is none other than Cornelia. Both sides continue their attack on the Siegfried and the Knightmare begins to crash. As it was about to crash land onto Cornelia, Jeremiah swiftly took her away to safety. V.V.’s henchmen who are about to leave the facility using the Eject Dart are now confronting C.C. who is waiting for them in her Knightmare. C.C. said that she is sorry for had abandoning them and commits herself to end the Geass lineage. With that, she fires a shot at the standby train. Back to Kallen, Suzaku is trying to convince Kallen that Lelouch is at blame and firmly believes he is Zero. Kallen however denies this but Suzaku attempts to use Refrain on her. The injured V.V. is making his way to the shrine altar where he meets Charles (who appears out of nowhere). V.V. reveals everything about Lelouch to Charles – that Lelouch is Zero and “he” has deceived Nunnally. Charles appears disappointed that V.V. has lied yet again to him. The team commander looks over the battle’s casualty and begins to wonder that the fight is no different from what Britannia would do. Lelouch who is chasing after V.V. Just as he entered to where V.V. is, he was immediately teleported to the shrine that holds the Sword of Akasha. His father, Emperor Charles appears to him and told him that the time for his atonement has come.

Thoughts: The plot is taking a huge turn this episode. Something expected when it involves over someone’s death. I was a little emotional during the early scenes on Shirley’s funeral (I blame the Korean soap for that). I have always considered that her death is just too tragic. But what follows after is just too unexpected. When Lelouch seems to be accepting Rollo’s action to kill Shirley, I should have figured that he had already prepared something in mind for him. Lelouch is an opportunist. He will use Rollo to his benefit until the end. Too bad, Rollo has yet to perish in this episode. Nearly though. Now, it seems that the Geass cult is completely obliterated, leaving the remaining known Geass users together with C.C. and the bonker V.V. The Geass contract took centre stage as well. C.C. nearly revealed her contract with Lelouch at the end of the episode. It is unlikely that it would be revealed in the next. Also the contract made between V.V. and the once-handsome Charles to slay all gods and rid of the world from all the lies. I have no idea what lies they refer to but gods would likely mean Geass users. That is why V.V. wanted to kill Lelouch. Does it mean that the mighty Marianne was a Geass user? Could it be that C.C. was the one she made the contract with? Is that the reason why Marianne was assassinate because she have Geass? So many mysteries are still lurking around the Geass but for now, I am more curious about this mask.

Next episode: One-shot preview that probably hints us that the coming episode is a recap episode. And likely some of C.C.’s past, I hope.
