Code Geass R2 episode 16

Words of the Emperor’s disappearance begins to pass around the higher-ups of the Britannia government. Lelouch figured this out, knowing the fact that he was left behind in the realm where the Sword of Akasha was. But for the time being, Lelouch have to handle with C.C. who now becomes the person who she was before receiving the Geass. More after the jump.

Asahina holds suspicion over Zero’s recent secret missions while in Area 11, Suzaku seeks apology from Kallen but only to receive punches from her instead. After meeting Cornelia in captivity, Lelouch joins a meeting with his allied nations to discuss on the formation of a federation of states that he names as the United Federation of Nations, an alliance of nations rivalling to that of the Holy Britannia Empire. Back in Area 11, Suzaku is in doubt whether he has made the right decisions until today. Anya who is there told him that people’s memories are not reliable as they may not always be accurate. Defending her statement, she told him about the reason why she is keeping a journal of her life because she has no recollection about those memories, as though that it was altered in some ways. Suzaku begins to suspect whether Emperor Charles is responsible for this to happen on Anya. Suddenly a dagger is thrown directly at Suzaku, which he managed to capture. It came from the Knight of Ten, Bradley Asprius. Even the Knight of One, Bismarck Waldtstein arrives on his Knightmare Galahad. Apparently the Britannia Empire now under Schniezel’s command is preparing an all-out battle against the Black Knights. So Suzaku returns to prep his Lancelot as Nina who is there suggested that the new Freya system to be installed on the Lancelot. However Lloyd has already prepared the Guren for Suzaku to pilot. Freya is the new atomic bomb Nina recently created and to have Suzaku carrying the bomb simply puts him to a suicide mission. But Lloyd seems to be on Suzaku’s defence.

Finally the day Lelouch has been waiting for has arrived. The ratification ceremony of the United States Charter is about to take place on Hourai Island. With the ceremony is on global broadcast, the whole world is witnessing the birth of a new superpower but there is a concern about the military cooperation between the nations. To resolve this matter, the Charter demands military disbandment on all the participating nations and let alone a single military corporation to handle this, which is the Order of the Black Knight. Finally Kaguya as a member of the Supreme Council of this new Charter gave her first motion, which purportedly becomes the Federation’s first resolution – the liberation of Japan. During this glorious ceremony,  all of the sudden, Emperor Charles takes over the airwaves, very much to the surprise of many. He lays out the whole scenario on a simple manner, saying that Zero has now divided the world between Britannia and non-Britannia. So, the final victor of the war will also claim the reign of the world. Simply put that Emperor Charles is declaring a war against the radical Black Knights. Lelouch walks away from the ceremony after the appearance of his father. Overwhelmed by his worry, he accidentally lashed out on C.C. and injured her. He immediately checks on C.C. for the small cut and she assured him that it was nothing compared to what she usually receives. Lelouch was taken aback upon hearing this. He then asked her what she would do if she is hurt on the inside and she replies that a friend would be the best remedy. Lelouch is then reminded of his old friend who is now his foe, Suzaku. So he gave Suzaku a call and confessed to him that he is Zero. Having said that, he begs Suzaku to do him a favour – to protect Nunnally once he begins invasion on Japan. Suzaku agreed but only on the condition that they both to meet each other, alone, at the Kururugi Shrine.

Thoughts: That was a shocker. I was certain that the Emperor would be missing for few more episodes but apparently, he makes a shocking return on this one. Either way, the enthusiatic spirit of the new nations is not affected though Lelouch was totally shaken by this. Now he turns to his only hope, a person he used to trust – Suzaku. In fact, for this to happen may not be as bad as I thought it would be. I know that there are many Suzaku-haters out there (myself included) but I have a good feeling that both Suzaku and Lelouch will collaborate together to fight against a common enemy, the Emperor of Britannia. As for the matter, it is also possible that Gino and Anya will join Suzaku for his sake, simply because they both have preference to Suzaku somehow. If there is any future clash to look forward to, it’s going to be a battle between Bismarck and Suzaku, if not, Todou. Bismarck is the strongest of the Knights of Round. Just to see him on the battlefield would be something to look forward to. For things to happen now is something that is expected somewhere along the way. The formation of the United Federation of Nations is just another platform on which Lelouch can propagate his cause for a war. C.C.’s memory loss is indeed surprising but until now, I have no idea how this would end up into. Finally for the Guren, it is safe to say for now that Kallen won’t be able to use it for quite some time.

Next episode: Lelouch have to bet on Suzaku to have Nunnally saved. But for the mean time, an impending war is approaching at Area 11.
