Gundam 00 S2 Episode 1: The Angels Advent

Finally, the return of the terminator! Gundam Exia! Or what remains of it. I would like to skip giving a summary but I thought it would be better to write down my thoughts together with a brief summary. As such, SPOILERS ARE TO BE EXPECTED!

Thoughts and comments:

Wow, Gundam 00 Season 2 sure started out with a big bang! Flashy mecha engagements, big nice fireworks and a revamped political landscape. Same ol gundam with even more new mechas! Tis a good season to begin. The insert music is very fitting as well for the A-laws which chills me whenever listen to it. Cold heartless A-laws? Not surprising considering ribbons, probably a cyborg is in charge of A-laws, made up of a bunch of blood thirsty warmongers. Or not. Just doing their job, ridding the world of kataron. so what is kataron?

Political landscape:

At the center of this particular conflict, lies a organisation by the name of kataron, which during this episode, had one of its bases decimated by an A-head piloted by Ali Al-Saachez, and 2 of the A-Laws new unit, GN-XIII which is apparently under the Federation! Kataron is made up of soldiers from all three world organisations ; you have the Union with their spanking big logo at their upper arm area, the Human Reform league with their clunky helmet and perhaps the AEU as evidenced by the units used as well as the appearance of the soldiers in the base. Instead of the previous 3 power blocs and celestial being, we now have A-laws under/controlling? the Earth Federation which is the combination of the 3 power blocs, the kataron – an international opposition group as well as Celestial Being. The political landscape has changed significantly and yet, war continues and setsuna is not too happy about it.

Old flames reunite:

Colonel Sergei Smirnov is back with his previous underlying who he might have proposed to (or not), Peries enjoying the peace and serenity of not fighting a gundam until Ensign Andrei Smirnov, that’s right, the Colonel’s son appears on the doorstep to bring Peries resist Celestial Being.

Meanwhile, during A-law’s 2nd attack on another of Kataron’s bases, Setsuna meets Saji Crossroad during his intervention, saved Saji from automated killing machines(Terminator TX1000?), saved him from execution for being suspected as a rebel, brought him to Celestial being and Saji thanked him by breaking down, snatching Setsuna’s gun, pee-ed his pants and didn’t pull the trigger. Way to go saji, put the blame on Celestial being. Oh wait, CB originally wanted the world to hate them so that they can be unifed. Guess it worked on one guy at least. My bad Saji, but you had two years to think all about it and it even appears you have no idea about the kataron . Hm, either the Federation is keeping a media blackout about the resistance, kataron or all three organisations are about to go into full gear after two years. This might actually explain why Setsuna has been in hiding for the past two years, couldn’t contact CB which has been cooling their GN-drives, couldn’t intervene since there was no conflicts(?) but now with A-laws taking the initative on kataron, setsuna appears and gets reunite with his family with Saji as a bonus. Saji’s colleague who got Saji into trouble took a few hits from the machines who gave a dance akin to the flaming man dance from Fallout 2. The new Tieria Erde took gundam Servaee for a spin to save the 5 year old Exia after it lost both arms to A-law’s Ahead. The crew are back without lasse and fledt!

The loners

We also witness the appearance of WARRANT OFFICER?! Louis Harvey!!! in her GN-XIII with the mysterious power of the previous tiera. Now, she’s somehow connected to ribbons and required medication?painkillers? for either her new condition or the pain.

Dr Doom Graham makes a brief appearance while marching down the halls in his new superhero suit relishing the coming fight with gundam once again.

Princess Marina Ismail watches the news while wearing a new suit, fashion must have changed and perhaps the fundamentalists defeated?

Allelujah Haptism is stuck somewhere in a research facility. While Setsuna had better luck drifting to safety, I guess Allelujah was just too unlucky. Most likely rescued within the next few episodes.

New comers

The colonel’s son. Possible pairing with Peris!

Shirin Bakhtiar joins kataron and teams up with Klaus Grado and Lockon’s twin brother Lyle Dylandy in kataron to be the leadership. CB decides to steal Lyle over to be the new lockon sending Setsuna as their recruiter.

Missing but not for long. Probably.

The cockroach missed the first episode! Must be shooting the breeze with Kati Mannequin. Or shooting the resistance from Kataron. Whatever the case is, it seems the old Colonel has been keeping in touch with Colonel Mannequin since the alliance 4 years ago.

Shocking relevation

Sumeragi is back in bed business with Billy the goat. Harvesting information for CB I hope.

Wang Liu Mei requested an audience with Ribbons! Does it mean they are working together or is Ms Wang just testing the waters and trying to find the true goal of A-laws. This would be the most important part of the plot for Gundam 00 Season 2. What do you think is the true goal of A-laws? Why are they exterminating Kataron like bugs and ill-treating prisoners of war by forcing them to work in high gravity environments, no different from slaves in mines.
