Hetalia Axis powers episode 42

It appears that no DDL anime site like Hetalia (they must be run by Koreans) so I’ve finally given up and kept to watching this series on youtube. This also means the screencaps are from Youtube. While it may be far more difficult to take screencaps this way, I haven’t actually noticed any difference in the quality of the pictures. So yeah, Youtube FTW.

Russia, your fangirls have arrived

Now if someone was to ask me whether they might feel uncomfortable watching Hetalia I could certainly point to a number of reasons. Apart from the obvious heapload of potential hurtful comments towards different countries and societies that you might get buthurt about, there’s also the abundance of bishies and yaoi undertones present. However I never would’ve thought I would be warning them against this

*warning* the site I have linked above is TV Tropes, a horribly addicting site that if you visit you probably won’t leave again for the next 3 weeks so to save you from that peril, let me explain it to you. Gainaxing is the term used to describe the bouncing breasts of an anime character being animated separately so they seem to have a life of their own. The phrase is coined from the Studio Gainax and their usually well-stacked characters. And that’s what we’ve got going on here with Ukraine. She even comes stocked with her own bounce sound that sounds rather similar to what a rubber band bounce would sound like if played in reverse.

Sorry for going into a little anime-nerd lecture there. Then again I’ve been going on far too many history-nerd rants in this series so it’s a nice change. Besides, the history behind this episode was explained for a change so there’s nothing more I need to do. Although I don’t understand exactly why Ukraine has those melons anyway. Maybe Hetalia is trying to appeal more to its male audience. Yes, all five of us. Funny then how Belarus was by far the better character in this episode. Out of the four female characters that’s appeared so far in Hetalia (lets discount Joan of Arc for now) she’s been the best by far. Not by herself though but because of the effect she has on this guy.

Ah Russia. Apart from his epic Vodka dive from the plane, I felt he was a bit of a one-trick pony with his whole being evil thing. Turns out there’s something that even the most evil country in the world is scared of. Despite the two new characters, it was Russia that stole the episode hands down. Watching him randomly bully Latvia halfway through was probably the funniest part of the episode. At least until the joy of hearing yet another new closing song! I would rank  him above Japan (obviously. I could sing better than that idiot) but below Italy and Germany. Of course, Germany would be ranked the highest of the lot. Every song in existence turns more epic once sung in German. Don’t believe me? Let me prove it to you with a german rendition of Pinky und Brain!

Man, I was wondering how you’d react to Ukraine. Now quite what I was expecting, but at the same time my expectations were met. Odd, that.

As always it was fun reading your review, and thanks for your hard work!

    Ah– Belarus~~~
Her voice was different than I expected.
She’s favourite female character by far!

Yeah but for some reason all the fangirls cream their pants with Bo- I mean Ukraine.

Damn they didn’t include the scary Kohl kohl kohl in Russia’s song…

Eh… Ukraine’s breasts disturb me. Seriously. I can account for being stuck on TV Tropes for ages as well. I loved reading this- Belarus has got to be my favourite female character hands down. I feel for Russia immensely.

@heyheyho: I can’t belive they didn’t include the kohl kohl kohl either- That was practically one of the best bits of his song! But I did love one of the last lines “Winter in Siberia is insanely cold.”

I’m so happy I saw more of Russia.

Actually, I quite like Russia’s ending.

    It has Tetris referances.

“Although I don’t understand exactly why Ukraine has those melons anyway.”

*cough* It has been a known fact that Ukraine has huge tracts of land, that’s why.

Thanks for the great post again this week. Seriously what is with TvTropes being so addictive, I can’t stop going back to that site.

I remember reading that because Ukraine is a largely agricultural country, her breasts represent the “large tracts of land” found there. And that is why I love Hetalia, educational references even in a characters humongous breasts.

And you have to love Belarus since she’s the only one who can make the most evil and scariest country existing huddle in a corner and cry.

Really? I disagree, I think Japan has one of the best singing voices and Germany the worst.
    But I’m also very weird.

  8. 12 November 2009 at 12:32 pm

Ditto on the TV Tropes website – it’s like quicksand or a tar baby – it simply SUCKS YOU IN. One arcane fact from TV Tropes about Hetalia: Japan is placed in the “Monochromatic Eyes” character category.(!)

Oh, but Japan’s ending song performance is sweet… But Germany’s manly shouting is good, too. 😉

And that “Pinky und der Brain” is… WUNDERBAR. :0

Tv Tropes!!! Quite an addicting site, i have to agree! Once i open a tab for Tv tropes, it becomes 10 more tabs later on and then i can’t stop reading. OTL

As for Ukraine, i love Ukraine! She’s adorable, in my opinion~! I love her voice. 😀
But Belarus is my fave~! ❤ I love how creepy she is~! I wasn't that scared with her in the comic strips, but when i heard her voice and that creepy looking face, i suddenly felt chills/something creeping in my skin. And some have already explained it, but Ukraine's bewbs are huge tracts of land. Ukraine's adorable <3.

Japan has a nice voice, actually. I found it out when i heard their Christmas song. He sung wonderfully in that song, actually. (Although i didn't enjoy his MKC and Character songs)

I was also expecting Russia's kolkolkol, but i don't think he'll be kolkolkol-ing after an episode with Belarus in it. xD

Also.. "Enjoy the sub-zero temperature!" made me lol. xD

Finally Belarus & Ukraine appeared in this episode 🙂
Nice “tract of land” you have there Ukraine~
Belarus is even scary than Russia…the two yandere siblings
This episode is more like a bonus to the male viewers like me XD

Hard work? Pfft, if this was hard work I wouldn’t be doing it. Blogging Hetalia is fun!

Girls do that don’t they. For example there’s a lot of girls that like Ikkitousen and it seems that there’s a lot of guys who are put off by bouncy boobs more so than girls. Odd that.

Not a large breast fan eh? So you prefer DFC then?

Huge tracts of land…riiiight, it had nothing to do with the fact that the author was sick of drawing bishies and desperately wanted some boobage.

    @Jan Suzukawa

Yeah, some of the random info that TV tropes gives you. I’ve stopped visiting the site thankfully but for about a month I couldn’t get off the thing.

I was only really comparing the ending songs and you could barely hear Japans voice when he was singing his song

Hurrah for large boo…err, I mean tracts of land…yeah

Yeah, Japan’s MKC wasn’t nice at all. He was too.. uhh, quiet? xD (i don’t listen to his songs at all DX)
So i was quite surprised when he sang that Christmas song with Germany and Italy. He actually sounded.. decent. xD

Ah, TV tropes. I don’t use it that much right now. But once i open one tab, it’ll become quite hard to close the following TV tropes tabs xD

@Scamp … DFC… Nah, it’s just the way they have a life of their own… I saw too much of them bouncing up and down, is all. BTW, I loved the Pinky and the Brain. Yes. Just, just yes.

Japan is an OK singer I think, though I like France and China’s ending themes…

  14. 13 November 2009 at 7:14 am

Wait a second…I got to episode 42 and failed to make a reference to Douglas Adams? Man, I’m a failure as an nerd

tabs…they are a horrilbe and yet wonderous invention

One of my friends used to have that german version of pinky and the brain as their ringtone. I always felt it sounded like a war march

Have you always made a referance to Galaxy Guide’s author? o.O

Anyways, was I the only one who thought ‘Liang Qi’ (Canaan) when I heard Belarus’ voice…?

And one of my favorite parts was when England was like ‘Russia’s down? That must mean the world’s going to end! :O’
    Whoo! Russia-End-Of-The-World-Barometer!

I was so happy they played Russia’s song at the end! Whoo Sibera sub-zero!

We’ll see more of Ukraine, Belarus and the Baltics later. Yay! 😀

@Humanity_Cat: Haha.. i lol’d at that part too. xD

@blogger Yeah, i liked France’s and China’s MKC endings than the others. Oh, and Russia’s too. 😀

My friends were visibly disturbed when I showed them episode 42 And yes~ Belarus is awesome. But I prefer Taiwan.

I disagree when you say Japan has a bad singing voice! I love his singing voice. Its so smooth. But then again, thats coming from a Japan fangirl. But still! D:

  18. 17 November 2009 at 6:12 am

…I mean, what an enlightening episode. So deep…so deep…even the great Russia has weaknesses. We are all not invincible. There is always a hidden fear.

COME TO MY ARMS, RUSSIA! I SHALL PROTECT YOU FROM BELARUS! *flings self protectively in front of Russia*

Anyone who had heard the Germany’s Anthem (We Are German Made) will know the power of German singing. Yes. Though the Russia ending song made me so happy. (not because I’m a ballistic Russia fangirl, oh no!) Especially the line ‘winter in Siberia is insanely cold’. 😀

@Randomanon: Thank you for the Monty Python ref. Thank you. I agree. (Stalin was born in Ukraine. Perhaps this means something…O.o)

@Scamp: I’m ashamed of you. Douglas Adams fits in everywhere. EVERYWHERE. MARVIN MOCKS YOU FROM ROBOT HEAVEN.

I have a feeling Ukraine has huge boobs because Ukrainian people are heavy on women running the show.

I have a friend who is directly from the Ukraine, and she was telling me how the men are rather subservant to the women there, and the women are basically the bosses of the country.

What I’m trying to get at is that they are trying to go “SHE’S ALL ABOUT BEING A GIRL. LOOK AT THOSE BOOBS.”

But I could be horribly wrong, too 8D

  20. 17 November 2009 at 6:24 pm

I do make a fair bit of references to the Guide to the Galaxy. He is one of the three greatest comedic english writers that I aspire to. Douglas Adams, Terry Pratchett and littlekuriboh

    @Hitman Sougo 13

Everyone is a fangirl of someone. If I was a girl (or homosexual I guess) I’d probably fangirl over Germany. Tsundere FTW

Marvin is heaven? He must have got tired of life….life. Don’t talk to me about life

Scamp knows whos the best in the caaaast~ *hiiigh five*

    I’m a Germany fangirl.. He’s just too handsome… *fidgets*

The social failings and wursts just make him MORE adorable, and the UNIFORMS @____@

Oh, btw Scamp, I wanted to link you to the funniest MAD’s i’ve ever seen, for a long time:

    (Activate the subs.)

(Less crappy version, but not that funny)

There are a few more, but I don’t know if you’ll like them because of the ghey.

Yeah, i heard about Muki-dere. Hahaha.. Another member of the Dere family, it seems. xDDD

But if it’s about Tsundere, it definitely points to Igirisu. Hahaha xD

True. Germany’s awkward moments, social failings, naiveness and muki-dere-ness makes him adorable. xD

@heyheyho: That first MAD vid.. oh goodness, that first MAD vid.. i laughed to tears. x’DDDDDDDDD
i’m going to watch the rest, so please continue to shower us with these awesome mad vids, please~ (because i get lazy when viewing Hetalia mad vids. I’ve been watching and downloading like mad for the past weeks, but these Hetalia mad vids just keep multiplying.. i can’t believe how many it is. OTL)

  25. 19 November 2009 at 8:36 am

    @ luffyluffy

Yes, the UNIFORMS. %D Sometimes I think that a lot of the reason I’m so obsessed with Hetalia is because of the uniforms.

  26. 26 blissfullynaive
    19 November 2009 at 9:30 pm

The uniforms are really ❤ *o*
My favorite is Belarus' uniform. Oh, and i think Poland's too.

@ksfwolfe He was born in Georgia. Mum bought me a book about dictators for some project and I read the whole thing. Pictures of Hitler and Stalin have little holes from where I stabbed them…

@luffyluffy Isn’t he though? German uniforms FTW ^_^ Social failings…I can SO relate. (Country I’m from is the prettiest YAY now no-one can make fun of me anymore!)

@blissfullynaive Yes, I think Igirisu is tsundere too ^_^

    ~Alles liebe,
