Not-So-Daily Link of the Day: Sega’s official website for Hatsune Miku, a virtual singer whose voice is created by a software engine, has announced on Thursday that she will hold her first solo concert on March 9. The date was chosen for the “Miku no Nichi Kanshasai 39’s Giving Day” project because “3/9″ can be pronounced in Japanese in the same way as the English word “thank.” More details will be announced on the website on December 17.
Hatsune Miku’s image was created by an artist named Kei, and her voice was provided by YAMAHA Corporation’s Vocaloid 2 engine using samples from voice actress Saki Fujita. The idol already performed “live” for the first time in August at the Animelo Summer Live 2009 Re:bridge concert. That concert used a screen installed at the back of the stage to project Hatsune several stories tall before a standing-room-only crowd of 25,000. She also performed in Singapore during the Anime Festival Asia 2009 event last month.
