There is a hype building up around the Code Geass Project. I have shared this before and finally, confirmed it. As I mentioned before, more details will be revealed in the January issue of NewType. Since NewType is not readily accessible to me and that it’s in Japanese while I only read minimal Japanese anyway, getting that issue of NewType is out of question. Luckily for me, there are other reliable translated sources. The good people from the GG fansub got a copy of the magazine and translated it for us fans.
“I, Lelouch vi Britannia, command you to not to kill my screen time. I need to know if I’m dead or alive!”
Long story short, the Code Geass project is an upcoming Code Geass manga taking place during the time before the events of “Lelouch of the Rebellion”, which is during the Edo Era. This manga, entitled “Renya of the Dark” is a part of the “Code Geass History”. The script writer for this Code Geass, Goro Taniguchi, already tells upfront: this Code Geass manga will be not adapted to anime. Instead, he hinted that there are more chapters to be revealed under this “Code Geass History” arc. So from what I can understand, this new Code Geass project will revolve mainly on this “Code Geass History”, explaining the origins of the Geass. That means more will be revealed about how C.C. obtained her Geass Code, how the Geass Code came to existence, and the most intriguing question of all, C.C.’s real name. However, these questions I ask are purely theoretical and does not reflect the real intent of the Code Geass Project. Anyhow, here is the main excerpt of the NewType article translated from the GG fansub blog:
Starring a NEW main character, Renya, the adventure of “Code Geass” unfolds once more. A new manga script writer, Goro Taniguchi, makes his debut with the newest “Code Geass” project serializing in the monthly magazine, Shonen Ace. A manga series with Taniguchi, the director of the anime, writing the script, and Tomomasa Takuma doing the artwork. “I show much gratitude to both the head editor of Shonen Ace and the manga artist, Mr. Tomomasa Takuma. I’d like to take on this project as a challenge, being an inexperienced manga script writer,” says Goro Taniguchi.
The long-planned project finally comes to materialize. “The new project, ‘Renya of the Dark,’ will be an episode within the ‘Code Geass History.’ There will be stories from two different eras in the same world. The anime featured the ‘Lelouch of the Rebellion’ chapter, and we see this as the ‘Renya of the Dark’ chapter.” This “Code Geass” will be expressed through manga. How will it differ from the anime? “For instance, you can express emotions on a panel by panel basis in manga, and you can also express a fighting scene with intensity via a two-page spread. I wish to release a ‘Code Geass’ that is unique to manga with Mr. Takuma’s amazing skills in drawing sharp lines and expressive glances.”
The stage is the Edo Era. Renya and his friend meets C.C. and face fate head-on. “We will write the epic of Renya with the two main themes that are present in ‘Code Geass’: ‘What does it mean for man to live?’ and ‘What exactly makes me who I am?’” The next movement of “Code Geass” has finally begun to move. “We still have many other chapters of the ‘Code Geass History’ that are in the works, so stay tuned for future announcements!”
