ookami kakushi episode 9

Hello. My name is Hiroshi and I am an idiot.

Hiroshi really irritated me this episode – more than he normally does. His whining about not knowing anything and then actions after learning everything from Nemuru… This guy can’t do anything right, can he? Sure he thought he was helping Nemuru by cutting her loose, but she was clearly suffering more being unrestrained in a confined space with such a lethal Temptation. Now with an understanding of what she is and how he affects her, you’d think Hiroshi would keep his distance and just chat nicely to pass the time, but no, he decides to get up close and personal with Nemuru. I know it was difficult for Nemuru to resist but what she should have done after her hands were free was pick Hiroshi up and throw him out through the door with her superhuman strength. Then she could have gone home too.

Nemuru’s gentle and friendly behaviour toward Hiroshi irked me too. I’m not sure if it’s because she’d lost her position as the Huntress or if it’s because she was succumbing to the temptation but I liked her better when she thought of Hiroshi as a nuisance. Don’t answer his questions, just knock him out. I understand that she doesn’t want to shed anymore blood and how difficult it must be to lose friends but don’t forget, Hiroshi is an idiot.

For the most part, I thought this episode moved slowly. Few things happened and while it was nice for Nemuru to give an open explanation about Jouga and her kind, it was more or less what we’d all suspected already. Kasai’s betrayal wasn’t unexpected either. We all knew he didn’t like Nemuru’s idealistic way of dealing with things and thought getting rid of the problem was a more effective route to take. I didn’t know he worked at the clinic though… which is hardly ground breaking news. I hope he hasn’t put all his eggs in one basket in trusting Sakaki though because he’s clearly not trustworthy considering how he sold out Doctor Kushinada. Oh well. It’ll be interesting to see Sakaki’s final act of revenge and what Kasai has planned in counter of that – if he’s got anything planned at all. He’s kind of a stupid character in the sense that he was just introduced to cause conflict. (Kind of like Issei’s junior who’s making her reappearance next episode, and wreaking havoc at the Hassaku Festival.)

I have a lot of hope resting on Kaori because she’s one I really don’t get.

Yeah I think calling Hiroshi an idiot is putting it nicely. He’s the worst kind of horror film character. That damn annoying one that can’t even do us the decency of dying. To be honest he wasn’t even trying to do her a favour. He was trying to prove a point. He didn’t like the rules her people were following and wanted to prove that it wasn’t necessary to kill anyone. The guy is a naive idiot. Just because you don’t like the rules of her people doesn’t mean you can put yourself and her at risk. He is damn lucky she has more self control than most.

I’m not really bothered by Nemuru. She was in an extreme situation. It’s almost like feeling terribly sick and having someone bothering you. In that state you really aren’t up for an argument. She was a little naive to think the truth was going to get him to leave her alone. She’d been suffering from that condition for hours and hours. She was probably barely keeping her sanity so being firm with Hiroshi was likely impossible.

It seems to be a theme this episode since Kasai is also an idiot. He just blurts out his plans in a street not knowing if anyone was around. Then he tries to assassinate someone and doesn’t even make sure they are dead. I doubt he has any plans to deal with Sakaki. It doesn’t seem like the guy has thought more than a single step ahead. Probably thinks he can just kill all temptations and it will resolve itself…somehow.

Yeah, Nemuru didn’t bother me too much either. Maybe she could’ve been more standoffish, but I could see her succumbing to the scent being a valid reason for being a little more friendly. Plus, being in a dire straight, I think she might’ve secretly been wishing that Hiro could have done something, maybe get someone’s attention or something… but not cut her ropes *facepalm*

If it weren’t for Hiro’s special scent this whole story could proceed without him, really. He’s such a waste of a character.

And stupid too boot, with a naivety only matched by Kira Yamato in Gundam SEED Destiny (he wasn’t so bad in SEED, but oh boy did I want him to die in GSD.) “So the Jouga wolves often can’t stop themselves and are killed if they violate the rules, rules that ensure the survival of all. Well why don’t they just stop themselves?” *facepalm*. It ranks right up there with Kira’s lines in GSD about “why are you fighting each other?!” Well, my fashion-challenged friend, did you not notice the extremists hijacking the Earth Alliance to get revenge for something that wasn’t ZAFT’s fault? Ugh.

Might have been useless, but wouldn’t it have been better if Hiroshi tried to use the knife to get out of there? I mean the structure is made of wood. Certainly more intelligent then cutting the girl free that clearly didn’t think it was a good idea.

He could have tried to use the knife to get out… but alas Hiroshi wasn’t smart enough to think of that, and Nemuru too preoccupied to suggest it.

…Although, in all fairness, I wouldn’t have thought of that either, haha.
