A look back at the winter season

Just to let you know, these are my personal opinions from what I’ve been watching this season.  If you don’t agree, just feel free to civilly comment below on what you think differently.  An overall season impression – the boring ones have disappointed, but the underdogs certainly stood up to take their spots.  Nevertheless, somewhat exceeding expectations in terms of enjoyment.

Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu: 9.0 / 10.0

Funny as hell, and you’ll never tire from watching it again and again.  This needs to be an RPG… and have a second season.  Don’t expect one though after a nice conclusion to the last episode.

Sora no Woto: 8.5 / 10.0

Compelling and attractive story.  Character designs were a bit cliche and direction was a bit disappointing and predictable.  Nevertheless, great series.

Durarara!!: 8.0 / 10.0

Deep and attractive story.  Interesting to see where the second half of the season will go.

Ladies versus Butlers: 7.5 / 10.0

This series could’ve been so much better without the fanservice since it had a decent plot and interesting direction of the characters.

Seikon no Qwaser: 7.0 / 10.0

Great story, good characters, and amazing action – only to be ruined by the brevity of the good scenes and the over-emphasis of the breast-sucking.

Dance in the Vampire Bund: 6.5 / 10.0

A great series only to be toned down by the vampire/Twilight fad that’s going on around the world right now.  Nevertheless, fun to watch… somewhat…

Ookami Kakushi: 6.0 / 10.0

It was really irritating to watch sometimes but it was overall deep and somewhat satisfying.  That said, I’d rather watch Higurashi over this… and don’t expect a Ookami Kakushi Kai or something like a second season to come out.

Omamori Himari: 5.5 /10.0

Not the worst I’ve seen, but pretty boring, cliche, bad, and uninteresting to watch.  Did I not mention that it’s drilled with an over-excess of skin?

I’m not sure how you rate things, but based on your text comments I’m guessing you really did find them all to be above-average shows (over 5/10)? I hope you aren’t trying to keep them all over 5 on purpose, because most of these shows from LadyButt down are pretty average at best. Aside from my ambivalence toward BakaTest, though, my ranking would probably be the same (not counting the other shows I’ve watched).

yes, I did try to be optimistic and pretend that everything deserved above a 5. truthfully, it wasn’t that great but I rated it as if it were for peoeple who had never seen any sort of the series before… XD if that makes sense

Ah, no problem then. I just wasn’t sure what to take home from this post 🙂

Don’t worry, though, I was just curious. Other bloggers tend to have confusing rating systems as well, just wanted your honest opinion 😀

My roommate and I are far more brutal, and tend to lump things into tiers for our anime club. It’s something like this, on a 1-10 scale:
        – Epic 10 (almost nothing get here, since it basically as to be a timeless masterpiece we both agree on).
        – Excellent 8-9 (we’re type A’s, very little gets here unless it’s original or at least well-constructed throughout like FMA or Durarara)
        – Worthwhile 6-7 (could have been better but was above-average like Sora no Woto, or was “meh” but alright for it’s audience, like Nodame or BakaTest)
        – Mediocre 4-5 (watchable but at best average stuff like Ookami Kakushi, or stuff that was just too messy/fillery for it’s own good like Bund)
        – Garbage 1-3(not much falls into this category, honestly, unless it’s incoherent and/or stunningly bad.. Railgun just avoided this fate, Himari didn’t)

In fact, it’d probably be more accurate for me if I used a 5-point scale… so basically, imagine a 5.0 above to be actually a zero. so bakatest would be 4.0/5.0 etc.
