Finally a Blockbuster Return in Anime

It’s official! Fall 2011 marks the return of the popular series, Hunter X Hunter. Apparently, a promotional campaign found on bookstores in Japan confirms that a new TV series has been green-lit for next season. (Source) HXH has had a 62 episode TV series, 3 OVA series totalling 30 episodes. There is no news that tells us if the new TV series will be a reboot or a direct continuation to the OVA. However, the latter seems to be most probable.

If the TV series is indeed a direct sequel, then, it should cover at least the first half of the Chimera Ant Arc. Insect haters beware. This Chimera Ant Arc arguably has the most disturbing and ugly moments in the series, but I’m sure you’ll be fine if you’ve read Franken Fran (lol).

I really wonder how long the TV series is going to last. It could go from 12 to 50 episodes. It wouldn’t surprise me if the anime is trying to do the entire arc. Let’s not forget that Shounen Jump confirmed that Yoshihiro Togashi will resume the manga in August. Maybe Togashi feels that he is healthy enough to finish the entire arc. Without a doubt, the anime length will certainly depend if he finish the job without going back to another hiatus. I wouldn’t be surprised if Togashi goes back to hiatus after one chapter.

After becoming 12, Gon leaves his home and takes on the task of entering the Hunter exam, notorious for its low success rate and high probability of death to become an official Hunter. He befriends the revenge-driven Kurapica, the doctor-to-be Leorio and the rebellious ex-assassin Killua in the exam, with their friendship prevailing throughout the many trials and threats they come upon taking on the dangerous career of a Hunter. Meh, a very old series with very little originality or appeal. Tried reading it once, it was as cut and dry as YYH or 3×3, very “proto-shounen”. DBZ was a better manga by far, though i guess its unfair to compare this guy to Toriyama.

I’m much more interested in announced Minami-ke’s return, but nobody talks about it.

Really excited for HxH’s anime and manga return, The Chimera Ant arc has been one of the more disturbing and darker arcs in the manga (The York Shin arc was pretty grim too) and I’d love to see how they portray it on screen.

I’ve never watched or read this so I have no interest in this whatsoever but a few of my friends are quite excited. Still not a classic IMO.

The Fall anime season is looking seriously awesome, though i’m not personally interested in HxH, it’s a pretty big deal. Apart from that we’ve got Fate/Zero, Guilty Crown, Shakugan no Shana III, Un-Go, Mirai Nikki, and Persona 4 the Animation, which has me so giddy it hurts, I plan to post something about it soon.
