I have to be honest: When I first started watching anime, I was drawn to the shows that were fantastical, that involved magic, different dimensions, futuristic worlds, or mecha. Whether it was the ability to manipulate natural elements, mold chakra, recite spells, perform superhuman feats, or interact with and drive a really cool piece of machinery, it was these kinds of shows that interested me. And only these shows.

12 days of anime #7: asread shatters my expectations, laughing all the while

My favourite anime this year is so far, without a doubt, Mirai Nikki. In a year with Madoka Magica looming over everyone’s heads as the show that’s going to be pointed at for years to come as a high point in anime’s history, that’s an odd thing to say. Honestly, going purely off of their respective plots, Madoka wins hands down, but there’s something about Mirai Nikki that I absolutely love, and I’ve only ever felt it with very few pieces of entertainment, most notably my favourite film of all time, Fight Club. It happens when something is executed in such a manner that something explodes inside of me, letting me know that whatever it is I’m experiencing, it’s the best thing I could ever be doing in that moment, and Mirai Nikki captures that brilliantly.

12 Days of Anime #8: TiTs

So we all know that sex sells and the anime industry is no different nor a stranger to sexiness.

However when I intially thought up the concept for this post I was evidently thinking of last year becasue as I found out there were considerably less (excessively) ecchi-type anime this year. Go figure.

12 Days of Anime #9: Samurai Champloo and my rediscovery of Nujabes

[a brief explanation on the dates of the 12 days posts, me and jGLZa both live in South Africa, and while these posts have come out once each day for us, the site displays them differently, anyway…]

Samurai Champloo is one of my favourite series of all time, I consider it better than even Cowboy Bebop, and people seem to have a pretty high opinion of that. But it wasn’t until I rewatched it earlier this year that I took note of something I really should have in the first place, the superb soundtrack headed up by a variety of hip-hop artists, most notably, Nujabes.

12 Days of Anime #10: 10 Days of Moshidora

Day 10 and today I’m taking you all back to a rather trying time in Japan. If you recall Japan was struck by some truely awful earthquakes which lead to destructive tsunami’s as well. This affect the whole of Japan and obviously the anime industry, most Spring shows were delayed in some way or another but none more than my choice for the season – Moshidora.
