A brief update, and what to expect from the future

Hey my fellow readers, it’s me again bringing you latest updates on series our team is currently blogging and a brief update of what to expect.  If you haven’t noticed, several of my latest posts have been updated later and later until they have been non-existent… somewhat.  I started the spring season blogging up to ten different anime series and in the summer picked up even more series.  In the beginning I was covering everything but as we got to the final few episodes in every series, school started for me and I found myself under more and more strain to finish the series.  But now that I have a little time again, I’ll try to finish up final impressions and bring updates on the series that I have finished, or have still to do.

I’m still taking a break, but I will come back to blogging in November starting with the series I have to finish.  I have no interesting in picking up any of the series in the summer so I’ll do movie reviews and some game reviews all relating to anime of course.  That obviously puts Amagami SS as my only series as well as my updates, but you shall expect a Fate/unlimited blade works update as well.  More to come, all in the new month!  (You can expect an epic return post as well).

HIGHSCHOOL OF THE DEAD episode ten and eleven: HOTD meets HOTD

Out of every misleading opening, the one for this episode had to rank somewhere in the middle.  That’s why none of you should be complaining that you were mislead to think that Rei would let Takashi do her in an “alternate” version from the manga.  I’ve watched this episode a couple of times in order to find any attempts at Madhouse’s slips that they throw in to reveal any future manga that they would animize (v. invented by SPIRAL: “to make an good anime out of a really good manga”).  The opposite would be to hinamize (v. also invented by SPIRAL: “to make a crappy anime out of a good manga”; word originated from Love Hina).

It seems that my, and many other blogger’s theories (although I claimed dibs on it), will stand correct as the final four episodes have still to come and our high schoolers have found themselves just adapting to a settlement and a safe haven away from the chaos outside the gates.  Since we’ve all been dealing with physical conflicts, it’s now time to address the issues that dwell inside some of our friends, namely Saya Takagi.  We all know that she comes from a very powerful and rich family, but problems still seem to come up, even in the conflicts of a zombie apocalypse.  The title is a play on Highschool of the Dead and its actual acronym, House of the Dead, since our heroes find themselves on an estate that very much reminds us of the first game in the series.

HIGHSCHOOL OF THE DEAD episode nine: Saeko Fanservice

As we all had expected, this entire episode is dedicated to Takashi and Saeko trying to get to safe house though a different route.  It feels really stupid since all they could’ve done is cause some noise somewhere else and hop through the metal fence when they went all the way around and slept at a temple before reaching the place the next day.  Am I the only that is ashamed at Takashi’s lack of orientation?

Regardless, they go through the whole day without needing to eat or otherwise so I guess that this explains their super-human reflexes when fighting the undead – they’re super human.  Of course,  I really shouldn’t be surprised at the fact of not eating in a TV show because I guess no TV show has characters saying “Hold the plot, I have to go to the bathroom” but for some reason, I feel like this show really needs to have both food and toiletry needs to demonstrate the survival aspects of a zombie apocalypse.  Then again, I’d probably be trolling about the waste of time that these scenes would have had they actually included them.  You win, Madhouse.

I missed last week’s episode on rescuing Alice and leaving the friend’s house, but since I’ve already read the manga, I was not missing out on anything (plus, I recommended Random Curiosity for last week’s review).  Alice is a great addition to the team, providing the moral support and encouraging that the series is more than flashing pantsu and bouncing breasts while fighting the dead.

Bouncing boobs and glorious things aside, here’s the second part of my late-night posting the episodes I am supposed to watch.  This proves that I am an epic blogger – not only do I blog several series at a time, but I do it in one night.  In fact, the UN has approved of this status – I am officially an epic blogger.  Any site I visit is also a great blog (in fact, it’s ranked as “awesome” right under “epic”, but I still have yet to get to “legendary”).  My awesomeness aside, here we go again.

SPIRAL [update]

For the last three days, I have been moving things in and out of my house since all the stuff came in from Korea.  Needless to say, I will be moving into college starting from the day after tomorrow and I am loaded with crap to do.  That being said, it hurts my heart to not review the series I am doing up-to-date so I will draw your attention to other blog sites that have written great responses to it, but I will be starting again next week.   Danke.

Highschool of the Dead episode sex

You can’t really blame me for the title – the episode had it coming.  Apart from the last five episodes being all about surviving, zombies, and undergarments flashing, this episode takes one of these elements to another level.  Surviving becomes harder?  Possibly.  More zombie?  Each passing minute, but the true masterminded craft that completely took the series to another level was the undergarments flashing – there were none this episode.  I thought that perhaps Madhouse would skip this episode, but now that I think about it, only they could pull off such a thing.

Surprisingly, they also added seriousness to the episode as well.  Whereas I had expected the house scenes to take up the entire episode (I wouldn’t be complaining), they also added the aspects of the cops and protesters to the whole series.  Realistically speaking, there would be people believing that the undead are a biological weapon used by the government to make themselves look good, but come on!  They were on the same bridge, and couldn’t those protesters realize that the whole thing wasn’t just some big conspiracy.  Those people have too much time, and are douches.  Tell that to the cute high school girls that got needlessly killed in the beginning.

Highschool of the Dead episode five

Perhaps I’ve gotten past the stage where I enjoy watching people kill zombies, or zombies kill people, or people kill people but Highschool of the Dead really takes this craze to another level with its incorporation of the army, the mass of zombies walking around, and the chaos that people would bring upon themselves upon a society that has gone crazy.  Makes me realize that the only thing that prevents humans from becoming savages are rules, laws that constitution our daily lives and actions that should so be punished if done incorrectly.  Some of the places in this series seem to still have rules, but Takashi established that soon it would be a survival-of-the-fittest, even amongst the survivors.

The other series I’ve seen that involve zombies (Resident Evil, 28 Days/Weeks Later, Dawn of the Dead, etc.) basically have just one plot element – survivors getting to a haven.  At first, Highschool of the Dead may seem like that but it incorporates so much more than what we can see – survival techniques, theories of humanity, love (oh come on, you know Rei wants Takashi), fanservice, bouncing boobs, and all the other galore, making this perhaps the most enjoyable zombie series I have seen in a while.
