Hetalia Axis Powers episode 29

I received my exam results today and it looks like I’ve gotten into the college I wanted. I can’t quite explain how relieved I am right now. So I’m in a bit of a giddy mood so forgive me if I start blabbing a bit in this Hetalia review.

This week we finally got something I’ve been clamouring for since he first showed up: Russia’s own episode. To think it took until episode 29 for him to get some proper screentime. It shows yet again Deen’s rather bizarre airing pattern with this anime. OK it’s not like Hetalia has a coherent timeline or anything but I can’t help thinking that this episode would’ve been far better suited to somewhere around episode 8. Possibly instead of one of those chibitalia sketches. Then again I’m not in charge of directing this anime, Bob Shirohata is. I took a peek to see what else this guy has worked on and he’s done pretty much nothing, apart from Gravitation, so it looks like he’s really hit the jackpot with Hetalia (have you seen the DVD sales for this!!! Fuck me, Hetalia sells well). You assume that these guys are professionals and therefore clearly will know better than you on how to make an anime. That is until you remember Endless Eight. Sometimes you have to wonder if you really would do a better job than these guys.

VODKAAAAAAAAAAAAA

VODKAAAAAAAAAAAAA

I love Russia’s leap of fate from the plane. What makes it even better is that the Russians genuinely believe in WWI that snow was soft enough so they wouldn’t need a parachute (one of those random bits of information that I know that’s totally useless outside of understanding a Hetalia joke). It makes you wonder how many of those other apparently random things that happen in Hetalia were based slightly off historical fact. When England did his satanic chants in an earlier episode, it was only when I did a bit of reading that I found out that the English genuinely tried to curse the Germans in WWII by asking the rather famous satanist and black magic specialist, Aleister Crowley. So for America’s rather random leap of fate for Englands’s ice-cream, was that in fact a historical reference to the fact that all the Americans soldiers who went to England in preperation for D-Day get sick because they ate too much ice-cream? Or was it just some randomness thrown in by Hetalia because hey, it was still funny.

Who do you think would win in a fight if these guys fought Italy?

While I’ve called this Russia’s episode, this episode really belonged to the trembling trio of the Baltic States. Gods, I love how demeaning Hetalia is of them. They’re constantly portrayed as being a bunch of utterly hopeless twats, being constantly pushed down by Russia. I particularly loved that the only way they could think of escaping Russia was to ‘rely on Germany instead’. Oh gods Hetalia, how I love all those genius historical one-liners that you toss in. As much as I love watching the banter between the different countries, Hetalia wouldn’t be as good as it is without these little snippets of golden humour. While this wasn’t the best episode of Hetalia, it certainly up there. So Hetalia has kept up it’s recent good form, although I’m a little miffed that they’re still using Italy’s closing song. I was hoping for maybe something sung by Russia or the trembling trio. Something like ‘Hey hey Russia, leave me alone. Hey hey Russia, argh argh Russia’.

D'awww, he's so sute and yet so utterly useless

D'awww, he's so cute and yet so utterly useless

On a final note, can you guess what my two best results in my exams were? An A in English and an A in History. So what I lack in sheer fangirlism in reviewing Hetalia, I make up in with my superior writing skills and my historical knowledge. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going off to do some partying.

Congradulations on getting into your college! ^^

Russia’s jump was amazing. I seriously could watch a loop of him diving and saying ‘vodkaaaaaaaaaaaaaa’ for about an hour.

Then I’d have to switch to a loop of Lithuania screaming ‘LATVIAAAAA! LATVIAAAAA!’

Russia’s Marukaite Chikyuu (also China’s) will be out on October… I think.
And, lol, the baltic trio countries aren’t that useless… (well at least Estonia and Lithuania).:P

    Hey, congrats on college! 🙂

Like I said, the part of Russia jumping out of the plane was definitely my favorite part in the main storyline stripes…..VOOODKKKKKKKAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And it’s funny, in the mainstory line stripes, the author/creator (whatever you want to call it) actually mentioned that Russians would think that the snow was soft enough to not use a airplane parachute……haha, I think it makes the joke funnier when you know that! XD

Hurr…in October or September? :/ September would be awesome, but I would laugh if they released Russia’s on Halloween, haha.

Am I’m going to sound weird if I say that I think Liet’s hair is ftw cute/awesome…? (Haha, don’t blame me, I’m a teenager living in America!)

    (in response to Luffy)
Haha, I have 8th grade US History this year, and now I’m just going to be thinking about America’s Storage Cleaning and Hamburgers and the such….but I seriously think I’ve learned more world history this summer than last year’s school….I don’t know if I should be dissappointed in my school system or happy…..hurr….

    Geography’s going to be interesting.

Pfft, I cant even look at a map anymore. I was looking at my mom’s “The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones” DVD’s and at one point, theres a map of Austria-Hungary. I bnearly dropped the thing and started laughing hard enough that my chest started to hurt.

    Roderich is very girly *shrug*

Haha, I know! XD Now other people are going to think I’m weird when we’re discussing Russia’s invasion of China (or something like that) and I start bursting out laughing…….niyah……..

I just laughed while reading your comment XD I can hardly say “in America” anymore, it makes it hard to converse XD

Hell, when me and my boyfriend go to Berlin, the first thing that will most likely come to mind is “Heh, I’m inside Germany and Prussia at the same time”

… God, Hetalia ruined my mind XD

You people should be ashamed of yourself, making perverted jokes out of these great nations!

…yeah Hetalia now means I can’t quite take a lot of history seriously as well. Although I have actually used some of the info I’ve learned in my exams so I like to think it’s helped.

Hee, your talking to the girl who’s praticly a female France 😀 Like, I saw this picture of Germany doing the Moe Moe Kyun, and he has these stockings… and I just wanted to touch his legs, over and over, and god I’m a freak XD

In majorly less disturbing news, I was up with my mom at about 4 AM and we were watching The Closer. I got a glass of water. So, the main character has a husband, and throughout the entire episode, I never really catch his name, cuz I was tired and stuff(Right now, I can pull off a crazy face + laugh combo that would put Shion Sonozaki to shame XD) and I’m like “Mom, what’s the husband’s name?” and she looks at me and says “Fritz.”

I choked on my water, to say the very least.

    … heh, Fritz

You asked about America and ice cream, there was a footnote in the original comic of American soldiers supposedly getting hurt over said sweets that they were sent home because of it.

Ice cream machines are then incorporated in their battleships. XD
