As the 5th episode of this slightly racist anime appears you have to wonder how certain people are taking this show, bar the Koreans obviously. Is there some Italian chap sitting at his computer feeling very hurt and saying ‘not every Italian likes pasta you know’. Except he’s saying this in Italian. And he has a slice of pizza halfway to his mouth. Well he should be happy because at least his country has a Hetalia character…nobody cares about Ireland…
This episode revolves around the Axis Powers getting stuck on some island. I’m afraid I’m at a loss to explain what part of history it’s meant to be parodying but that’s OK because when you have Italy and Germany arguing with each other it always ends up being damn funny. But this guy just isn’t pulling his weight
Japan just isn’t as funny as Italy or Germany but I suppose there is an explanation to this. Being a Japanese show you obviously have a lot of Japanese viewers. So any Japanese joke will have to be slightly more subtle than just yelling ‘PASTA’ as often as possible. That then means that these subtleties are lost on us folk. He’s just too soft spoken and hasn’t actually made me laugh properly, bar the ‘new submarine’ gag. But this is all fine so long as we have these two poking around
I just can’t get enough of these two together. I love the way Germany gets all embarrassed and touched whenever Italy does something nice for him, like ask to be his friend or make some lovely white flags for him (you can use them on girls too…lol). Plus Italy is so dopey he makes you laugh simply by appearing with that smile that suggests it doesn’t matter if you’ve sucked in every war since Jesus was born so long as you have enough pasta.

Now we’re five episodes in I have to say maybe it’s a good thing that each episode is only 5 minutes long. If not the jokes could get dull quickly but at this length means you can toss in a pasta joke every episode without it getting old, so maybe the Koreans did us a favour.
Either way, next episode shows us something I’ve really been waiting for

the reason why they don’t have Ireland is because in WWI ad WWII Ireland was classed as England.

At Tsuki: England is a country… Ireland was never a part of “England”. It was apart of the UK. In one strip England mentions having a brother named Scotland, so there is no reason Ireland shouldn’t be in it.
