Sora no Woto episode 8

What I like a lot about anime is that there are so many different types with so many different styles of artists and so many different genres. That, of course, goes without to say that a lot of people watch different anime, but I never knew that K-ON!! would be aired on 28 stations in Japan.  That being said, look out for the second season of K-ON!! to come – blindability will likely blog that series.

…and the menu today is meat.

Manning the Telephone: I Declare an Emergency (電話番・緊急事態ヲ宣言ス)

The squad are asked to watch over the emergency phone and wait for a call to check it is still in order, so Kanata decides to take responsibility whilst the others go out for various tasks. Before Rio leaves, she gives Kanata a trumpet book, signed by an Iliya Arkadia. Later, Seiya, Mishio and the Priest arrive, and decide to help Kanata practise using a phone, but a mess is made when Mishio spooks Shuko. Yumina arrives at that point, scolds the others and gives Kanata a change of clothes. Afterwards, Kanata needs the toilet but can’t leave her post, so she holds out until Rio comes back. The phone then rings and Rio answers, hearing a voice she’s not too fond of asking her to save Helvetia.

(The next few pictures summarize the episode)

…AHAHAHAHA! The toilet part was wayyyyy too funny yet I’m a bit disappointed with the standstill plot and the little action.  I’m curious to what the creators will do for the last few episodes when the things that matter will have to happen.  Maybe some country will invade and we might expect to see a lot of war and maybe a lot of sad scenes in the finale.  Will someone die..?  Actually, I doubt that any of this will happen, but that tells you something about what this episode disappointed me with.  Other than that, the comedy is still pretty funny even with combining not-so-comic elements from the plot and the characters.  We’ll see how the rest goes.

(We all know what this means, right?)

If only the episode was as interesting as that first picture would lead you to believe.

There was some funny moments in this to be sure. But mostly it felt disappointing to spend a whole episode watching someone watch a phone. Some key things like the phone call to Rio were definite highlights. Makes you wonder if we are going to see a war breaking out since peace talks are still struggling along.

Well, the next episode’s title makes it sound like it will be at least somewhat dark. This series has never tried to sell itself as heavy drama, even though it has a lot of those elements, so I can’t say this episode disappointed me very much. Well, the bathroom thing did, but I still enjoyed the episode. It did it’s job: It balanced the mood whiplash from last episode, and it confirmed a few bits of speculation out there. I’m sure that most people wanted it to do a lot more, though.
