Sora no Manimani episode 4

After getting a little bit frustrated at the lack of subs, AnimeOne finally brought out episode 4. Now I hope they keep to regular subbing of this anime now. As I’ve always said, I don’t mind if the subs are behind so long as they’re regular.

Since the club president didn’t appear much this episode I’m going to lead off with Hime since Hime is cute and fluffy. Like a kitten.

While I already liked her, Hime really grew on me this episode. I guess it’s the underdog syndrome. You can’t help but love the character who has can’t get her feelings across no matter how hard they try. The classic example of course is Harima Kenji, that poor man was cursed never to find love. And much like Harima, I found yourself cheering for Hime throughout the course of the episode. Plus when you realise the poor soul doesn’t have a chance you pair her off with someone else. Like the club president. Their romantic bike trip in episode 2 was clearly the spark to a wonderful romance.

(I went through a paragraph talking about cheering for underdogs without a single endless eight reference. What’s wrong with me, gotta stay with the times to stay funny)

Is it just me or has Mi-chan suddenly grown breasts?

Mihoshi, on the other hand, has started to get on my nerves a bit. Hyperactive characters are hard to create without making them rather annoying. There is a way to do it right but Mihoshi isn’t quite it. I’m actually struggling to think of a good hyperactive character in an anime. Maybe that’s due to the polite culture of Japanese so they have less experience with these character archetypes in real life. Or maybe I’m looking way too far into this. Her positive attitude is a bit infectious but this episode it just got on my nerves a bit. Maybe that’s just because she was plunging Hime into despair.

Now the confession. In true rom-com style, the entire thing was a complete mess. Hime thought she had confessed to Saku while he thought Mihoshi had confessed to him and now is worried because he thinks he likes Mihoshi. Now Hime is worried that Saku likes Mihoshi and turned herself down but in fact he didn’t hear her due to his fear of frogs(?). He could of course be lying but tsundere’s are hopeless at lying. However if he did hear her then there is just no hope for poor Hime. The picture above is from Saku after Hime did her little speech. And this…

…is his reaction to Mihoshi. Yeah, big difference. Poor Hime doesn’t stand a chance is this relationship unfortunately. Plus the next episode preview showed a Student Council Pres dominated episode, a girl whom Saku is far more suited for and probably likes as well. Hime’s only real chance now is to use this expert chat up line.

Hmm…I’ve spent this entire post talking about possible romances. This is all based on the assumption that Sora no Manimani is an intelligent anime and that one can guess that scenes aren’t thrown out willy-nilly. Maybe I’m expecting too much of a comedy anime…

A parody of a Japanese advert apparantly. Hopefully in that parody a giant hole appears and the character is never seen again.

Well I much preferred that episode to last episode. After introducing the character and the setting in the last few, this episode spiced things up a bit which inevitably leads to more laughs. But more club pres next time please.

And now for a little image-dump.

Let us all pause for a moment and take some screencaps of this graceful...

Screw that! More pictures of Hime!

Actually I'd pick her over that book club as well. Why hasn't she gotten her own episode yet?

Is there really any other way to finish this post other than another pic of Hime?

YES! I agree with you on that! Hime is an awesome character ever since she appeared! I mean Mihoshi is also cool because of her energetic and over-the-top behaviour and personality, but Hime’s character is just better IMO. Yes i agree with you on the slow subbing of this series, I mean come on, it’s a whole lot better than other series that still get regular subs this summer season.

One of the problem with slow subs is they kill my enthusiasm for a show slightly. Bakemonogatari has regular subs and that ramps up my enthusiasm hugely.

    And yes, Hime is awesome
