kyousogiga, the best anime this season

Against the entire bastion of super powered students on a drill-like campus.   Toe to toe with everything beyond the boundary.  Smacking medusae and rampant vampires like it ain’t no thang.  Kyousogiga comes from behind as an awkward underdog that somehow strangely hits the top.  It’s like Megurine Luka beating every other vocaloid in a track race.

summary

Pretty interesting premise actually: a world where gods and humans interact openly and often.  A guy who can turn paintings into living things ala Mushishi Episode 1 guy style.  His wife, a black bunny he drew up quite a while ago.  A human son.  An older brother who is a drawing and a sister who is also a drawing.  The sister is a oni/ogre though.  Oh that dog.  Well uh… Yeah, he’s pretty much just there all the time.  Dad and mom leave saying they will be back.   Probably around 15 years later, Koto arrives.  Hilarity ensues.

all younger versions of protags are so kawaiiiiiiiii!

the hook

Kyousogiga has the best hook in the entire season.  A delicious, enticing hook.  Something that makes you keep watching.  No, not banana licking lolis or super-thin-skimpy-seifuku fanservice.  In fact, the anime lacks standard anime skimpy-fanservice.  No, Kyosougiga or Capital Craze has class/standards.  It uses a guilt free hook so that even when you realize it’s a hook you don’t mind taking the bait.  Kyousogiga got really lucky with choosing such a hook. With only one other series (Monogatari Second Season [sorta]) using a similar hook, Kyousogiga’s hook stood out.  It’s also a bit risky of a hook as it makes the first impression of the series very rocky and shaky.  A very risky gambit, but they somehow managed to pull it off.  So what is this hook exactly you ask.  It’s none other than a puzzle involving/revolving around a single question: why?  Why is Koto there?  Why are the things the way they are?  With all these strings of questions, you realize you’re five episodes in and practically addicted.  Kinda like reading a webcomic called homestuck.  Don’t do it.

ominous-glowing-eyes-in-the-dark-ending cliche? Toei has been watching too much Sunrise mecha anime

the line

Kyousogiga had a few introductory episodes that set the scene.  They were a bit hard to grasp and understandably would lose most viewers.  But then you get to “the line.”  And then the mystery starts to unravel and wow you.  Kyousogiga is a master of the Chekov’s gun.  It overloads you with data.  Then, masterfully all these bits of data come together like a myster murder novel.  Except there is no horrendous murder, just the exhilaration of realization and the heartwarming feeling of family that this story centers around.  The best part is this show isn’t even a mystery anime.  It’s Kyousogiga, an anime with no settled style only a single theme.  I’m saying all this at the risk of the anime flopping on its face 5 episodes in.  But I doubt it.  Something inside me says that the anime is only going to surprise me more.  ::EDIT:: ALSO THE BGM IS FUCKING AMAZING!!!! ::END EDIT::

the sinker

I don’t know.  Will the anime sink to mediocrity?  Or will it wow us through the rest of the episodes to come.  I can’t tell.  All I can do is keep watching with eager eyes.
